

Gary was born in Croswell, Michigan, and raised in Fremont, Michigan. During college, he met Mary Jane Nurnburger, who would become his beloved wife. The two married in March of 1972 and later moved to Colorado, where they built a life together and raised their family. Gary pursued a career in sales and worked in a KWAL Paint store while dedicating himself to his passions and community.
An avid outdoorsman, Gary enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He also had a love for woodworking and creating things with his hands. He was actively involved in Chief Okemos Sportsman Clubs and the Boy Scouts, finding joy in sharing his knowledge and values with others.
Above all, he was deeply committed to raising his family with a strong foundation rooted in community, church, and steadfast principles.
Gary is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Kandler; his daughter, Kristina Marie Tempro and her husband, Edward Tempro; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in passing by his parents; his younger brother, Gerald Kandler; his sister, Barb Pickard; and his son, Jeffrey Joseph Kandler.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Our Savior Lutheran Church, 7910 W. St. Joe Hwy, Lansing.
Gary's legacy of love, dedication, and strong values will live on through those who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to all who mourn his passing.
