George Roger Balmer

George Roger Balmer, age 79, passed away and was welcomed with open arms by his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ into heaven on Sunday, July 27, 2025. He was born on September 24, 1945 in Lansing, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roger and Mary Balmer, and his sisters, Joann Cole and Donna Waters. He is survived by the love of his life his wife of 35 years, Sheila Balmer; his children Tina (Chris) Wilburn, Nathan (Elizabeth) Balmer; his children by marriage Beth Whisman, Mark (Jamie) Traver, and Shannon (Todd) Ashworth. George had many grandchildren and great grandchildren whom he adored and loved with all his heart. He is also survived by his sibling Kay (Cliff) Zehr; and many nieces and nephews.

George was a good man, brother, husband, father, and Papa. He was a man of few words, thoughtful, and caring. He was very strong willed, always kind to all, and would give you the shirt off his back, if you needed it. He was especially generous with his time, he was always willing to take time to be there for his family, even if it was just for five minutes.

George served in the United States Army from August 1966 until March 1972, where he was a Medical Specialist in the Korean Conflict.

George worked for General Motors for 40 years and retired in 2004, he took great pride in his work and the company that he worked for.

George enjoyed his time hunting, fishing, traveling around with their camper, he took great pride in his yard, and was a true patriot. He was a man of routine and the spot was not always the same, but he never missed breakfast.

George was a member of South Church since March 2, 2014. A memorial service will take place on Friday, August 22, 2025 at 11 AM, at South Church located at 5250 Cornerstone Dr, Lansing, MI 48917; with a one hour visitation prior.
