

He was in the first graduating class from Edsel Ford High School in Dearborn, and received his Bachelor's and Master's in Music Education from Wayne State University. He worked on his Doctorate Degree at University of Michigan. He also studied conducting at Eastman School of Music and then at Tanglewood. He began his teaching career in Detroit, then became Director of Bands at Waterford Kettering High School. Later he became the Director of School Services for Marshall Music Company. George was active in the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association, where he held several offices. He also was an adjudicator for the same association, where he judged bands and orchestras at the district and state levels. For many years George played trumpet in many professional bands. Retired in 2008, George became a scholarship representative and conductor for the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp.
George is survived by his children, Pamela (Matthew) Jenkins, Michael (Liz) Fetter; grandchildren, Christopher, Sydney, Shawn, Katelyn, and Joshua; great-grandson, Ace; siblings, Larry Fetter and Sharron Fraser; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Murphy, and sister, Marlene Lukitsch. George was a tender man who loved his family very much. He will be profoundly missed.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Gerard Catholic Church at 10:30am on Monday, November 5th, with visitation one hour prior to the service. The Rite of Committal will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes Lansing Chapel on Sunday, November 4th from 1-5pm.
