When I think about my Dad, it’s about his smile, strength and love for his family. As a kid, growing up in the 60’s, my Dad would put on the best bonfires in the neighborhood. Everybody came! Homemade ice cream that he would hand crank for hours, using rock salt, vanilla, cream and strawberries. Most delicious ice cream ever! There were hot dogs cooked on a stick over an open campfire. Tether ball, basketball and hopscotch were family entertainment for the night.
Trips up north to Grandma and Grandpa’s cottage on Houghton Lake were a favorite. My Dad loved to fish and took us out on the lake many times. I remember catching my first sun fish. I can still remember the smile on his face watching me catch my first fish.
He loved his garden, and would write out his list of things he would plant in the spring every year. He was so proud of his thriving garden and loved spending time tending his crops for harvest.
My Dad always wanted to help out. A few years ago, when husband, Jim and I were moving during 90 degree weather, our power went out. Even though Dad had difficulty getting around, he borrowed a large generator from his neighbor across the street, and had the neighbor lift it into his car, and he drove it out to our house. What a life saver he was!
There are so many good memories, and I will miss him dearly. Dad never complained about anything even when his health was failing the last few years. He was such a survivor, even after losing my brother, Terry, and sister, Marsha, early in their lives.
My sorrow is that we cannot spend more time with him, but I am joyful that he is no longer in pain or suffering.
Rest in peace dear father. I love you and will miss you forever.

My dad was not a man of many words, but he loved more deeply then anyone knew!!! even though his health has been failing, I had the pleasure of grocecery shopping and Dr. appts for him.
He never complained!!! I can still hear him give me his grocery list, make sure you get me small green banana's, grapes, did I tell you lunch meat! oh and cranberry salad I love that!! we were not close growing up but I began to get a loving bond with him!!! that has meant the world to me.
As I think back there were signs of how much he really loved his family!!! My son Matt was his go to person if he needed anything Matt was there without question, he would always mess up the remote TV, and call Matt because he would start pressing buttons and end up without a station, he would go over and fix it without question, and explain again what not to press, and the next day he would do it again, we would just laugh. I think when my sister Marsha passed that really affected him so deeply, that he wanted leave this world sooner.
Kyle and Andrea (2 of his granddaughters) were always there for grandpa, always willing to help if asked for Dr. appts or whatever asked., he had a family who loved him and would help him if needed.
Also, he would come to holiday parties at least 1 hour earlier because he loved to spend time with family, so special. My husband Mark had great joy sharing life stories with day, while I got ready for dinner. It will never be the same. I am not looking forward to the holidays, except to be with my family that I love and cherish, dad knows this, and that brings much comfort.
He so loved his garden, and loved doing yard work, his tomato plants, green peppers and butternut squash he loved
so much to make stuffed peppers, and give the squash to the food bank was of great joy to him.
I don't wish back because he was suffering so, but I miss his smile and corny sense of humor.
Rest In peace my Dear dad, I Love you and will miss you Dearly.
