Gregory Van Peenen, 74, passed away on April 17, 2024. He was born on December 4, 1949 in Lansing, Michigan. Greg proudly served his country in the US Army and served with distinction during the Vietnam War. He worked 17 years as a 911 dispatcher.
Greg is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judy; children, Christine (Chris Miller) Van Peenen, Jennifer (Ryan Cook) Van Peenen, and Danial (Tiffany) Van Peenen; grandchildren, Caitlin, Ada, and Eero, and his best pal, Ace. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Irene Van Peenen.
Greg started racing go-carts as a child and that love for cars and engines continued throughout his life and would build engines for both drag and oval track cars. He taught classes on engine building at Lansing Community College. His family said that Greg was happiest when he was building an engine. He also loved slot car racing and built slot car chassis for racers all over the country.
A visitation for Greg will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on April 22, 2024 at the Gorsline Runciman Lansing Chapel, 900 E. Michigan Ave. Lansing, Michigan. The funeral will take place at 12:00 pm on April 23, 2024, Gorsline Runciman Lansing Chapel, with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service.
Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Greg’s name may be made to Ingham County Animal Control or the National Kidney Foundation.
