

Born January 17, 1927 in Midland, MI, the daughter of the late John and Elva (Hollingsworth) Kratz, passed away May 27, 2013 at the age of 86. Preceded in death by her husbands, Fred A. Wurtzel and Victor Fry; and sisters, Adeline Hall, Vera Caughlin, Katy Snyder, Jackie Powers. Surviving to cherish her memory are her sons, Fred (Mary) Wurtzel and George Wurtzel; grandchildren, Fred A (Jessica) Wurtzel, Maria Wurtzel and Marc Wurtzel; and her sister, Ruth Beyersdorf. In her earlier years Helen was an avid team and tournament bowler. Helen was well-known for her distinctive fashion sense including her unique headbands. Known to many in Sanibel Island, FL, as the “Queen of the Island,” Vic and Helen were King and Queen of an annual Periwinkle Mardi Gras Parade. Among her favorite activities were decorating, cooking, dancing, entertaining and traveling. Helen never met a stranger. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Lansing, 1001 Chester Rd. The family will receive friends on Monday, June 3rd from 6:00 – 8:00 pm and one hour prior to the service.
