

He was born on February 27, 1962 in Guatemala to parents, Ernesto Lopez and Cenovia Benitez.
At Sparrow Hospital, Hugo was known to be a dedicated and hard worker by fellow employees. He was happily married to Lubia Cristina Lopez for eight years, and they had known each other since they were children. He was known to be a loving husband, brother, uncle, and stepdad who enjoyed spending time with his family. He loved his pets, and two dogs Osito, & Carlos. He enjoyed the outdoors, playing soccer, traveling, dancing, and shopping. He always had a positive attitude, and an outgoing personality, and loved to tell jokes.
He is survived by his wife, Lubia; his stepson, Frank A. Alaniz (fiancee Ali Roper); his step-daughter, Blanca Gatica (husband Jeremiah Gatica); and his seven beautiful grandchildren, Victoria Sauceda, Chloe Alaniz, Everly Alaniz, Viviana Bailey, Tyler O'Dell, Miliano Gatica, and Analia Gatica. He was a brother to Armindo Lopez, Aida Lopez, Amalia Lopez, Elda Lopez, Fernando Lopez, Elmer Lopez, Rolando Olivia, Yasenia Olivia, Elio Benitez, and Arina Benitez.
A funeral service for Hugo will be held on Friday, February 2, 2024 at 1:00 PM, with a one-hour prior visitation from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes Tiffany Chapel, 3232 West Saginaw St., Lansing, MI 48917. Following the service, there will be a Rite of Committal at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 4444 W Grand River Ave., Lansing, MI 48906.
