Jack L. McGowan, age 83, passed away on August 11, 2018. He was born in Lansing, MI on October 26, 1934. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marguerite and Lavear. He married Patricia Fineout in 1956 and they enjoyed 56 years together before her death in 2012. She was the love of his life. Dad retired from the State of Michigan after many years as painter. He shared many stories about his time painting inside the Capitol Dome, the Legislators offices and even at the Governor’s residence. Dad enjoyed golf and played on 2 leagues for many years. He also enjoyed his and moms trips to the casinos in Las Vegas and Michigan.
Surviving him are his daughters, Cindy (Gary), Julie (Mark),6 grandchildren, Ryan, Lindsey, Meghan, Courtney (Matt) , Nicholas, Zachary,4 great grandchildren, Alyjah, Austynn, Benicio, and his namesake Jack, 1 sister, Sandra, several nephews and 1 very favorite niece, Joann. Dad was a very generous man who always took care of his family. He worked hard to make sure we always had the best of everything. He taught and shared with us love, kindness, respect, values, strength, stubbornness, a “colorful” vocabulary (which always made his grandchildren laugh), and most of all the importance of family. He always said, “Remember who you are and where you came from”.
Although we are saddened by his passing we are also rejoicing knowing that he and mom are together again. We love you dad and grandpa.
Dad was a private person and never liked to have a fuss made about him. We are sure that if he had written this obituary he would have simply put “I’m dead”! That being said, we are respecting his wishes and there will be no services. We will celebrate his life as a family just like we celebrated all our special occasions.
See you later “Walter”.
