James Frank Look Jr.

James Frank Look, Jr. was born on May 17, 1958 to James and Joyce Look. Jim was a man that challenged everyone he met to be the best version of themselves, and he loved unconditionally. He died suddenly on August 31, due to an aneurysm, with family by his side.

Jim graduated from Everett High School in 1976. He went on to have a successful career in the automotive industry retiring from General Motors in 2008 after 30 years of service. He continued working with various companies in the automotive industry, including the Lear Corporation and most recently Bridgewater Industries as a Supervisor of skilled trades.

He married Karla Meyer in 1996, and had three children from a previous marriage. Jim was a natural leader, took pride in providing for his family, and had an uncanny knack for organization in all aspects of his life. He stated on a regular basis, “Trust me, follow me, I’ve got a plan.” Everything Jim did was with a purpose. He was not afraid to hold people accountable, but was able to balance a fair and equitable relationship with all he encountered. He had many soft spots, but his softest was for his seven grandchildren. He worked hard to make sure his family knew how much he valued and loved each and every one of them. Although he was generous in many ways, his greatest gifts were his time and attention.

Jim also loved his MSU Spartans and enjoyed season football tickets with his wife, Karla. His tailgate parties were epic. He found joy in the atmosphere of the camaraderie and cheering his team on to victory. He also enjoyed golfing with friends, and all kinds of music. His quest for learning fostered his belief that no one is too old to learn something new. One of Jim’s passions was supporting Operation Backpack. He spent many hours filling backpacks for children and serving those in need.

Jim is survived by his wife of 22 years, Karla Meyer Look; his 3 children, James Look, Kristina Ide (Benjamin), and Aaron Look (Kelsey); and grandchildren James Look and Gauge Hull, Sophia, Kaitlyn, and Jacob Ide, and Dakota and Chloe Look. He is also survived by his 4 sisters, Pamela Sober (Richard), Kathryn Look, Laura Hansen, and Diana Hoover.

In lieu of flowers, please consider creating a legacy in Jim’s honor by filling a backpack with school supplies and bringing it to or dropping it off at the funeral home. These backpacks will be given to St. Vincent Catholic Charities to support children and refugees that are at risk or homeless. Other charities include a direct donation to St. Vincent Catholic Charities, The Arbonne Charitable Foundation, Ingham County Animal Shelter, Cedar Street Church, and the Capital Area Humane Society.

Jim’s Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, Sept 9th. at Gorsline Funeral Home in Lansing (900 E Michigan Ave) at 3 pm, visitation prior from 2-3pm. with a dinner to follow at Cedar Street Church (1705 Cedar St Holt 48842) at 5 pm.
