He grew up in Huntington Woods, Michigan, alongside his younger sister, Laurie, playing baseball and fishing as much as he could. He attended Michigan State University, where he joined the Delta Sigma Phi fraternity, graduating in 1977 with a major in business administration. While in college, he met his first wife, Kathy Doyen, whom he married on August 5th, 1978. After graduation, he worked primarily in sales, spending the majority of his later career working for Wesco Distribution, specializing in commercial lighting. He hated nothing more than a poorly lit room. Jeff and Kathy divorced in 1992.
Jeff’s passions in life were hunting and fishing, and he identified as an outdoorsman above all else. In his early years he was heavily involved with the Ducks Unlimited organization and, in later life, he was an active member of Ingham County Pheasants Forever, serving as president of the local chapter for several years. He loved Hemingway and classic rock, particularly Creedence Clearwater Revival. He also enjoyed a cold beer and waking up with the sun.
Jeff passed away at his home in Holt, Michigan, on October 8th, 2024 at the age of 69 after years of ailing health.
Jeff is survived by his three children, Stephanie (Patrick) Wesselmann, Samantha (Niels) Hauff and Jack (Megan Alexander) Davis, as well as six grandchildren: Olivia Wesselmann; Henry, Miles & Alexandra Hauff; and Parker & Eliza Davis. He is predeceased by his brilliant, beautiful sister Laurie McNerney and his parents, Peter & Juliana Davis.
