U was always like my kid and family and will always be no matter what

John was the closest thing I've had to a grandfather since 1992. Although we weren't blood he treated me like one of his own. He is loved and will be missed by many. RIP Grandpa.

I remember he skipped a whole section at quantico museum to see the Vietnam section he was soooo excited to see I can even explain.. I came back again and told him ok we missed this section last time lets check it out. Good times :)

My dad was a good man and father loved bye everyone he will be missed I remmember fishing and hunting with him and all the stuff I learned from him along the way love u dad miss u always

Today was very sad but. It was nice to see so many people show their love for my mother and father as we do.im sad but now at peace knowing my dad is no longer in pain.as he looks down on us all and smiling at us all.he is drinking is coffee showing and pointing down at all of us. Showing everyone us by name.some day again we will meet again. Until then he spread his love and heart on so many people.

I remember gramps would always be walkin around with no shirt on and pants fallin down his butt. All the kids would tell him to pull his pants up we dont wanna c a full moon...gunna miss u gramps u where the only father I ever knew.....you will never be forgotten.... Love u always, Mikey

He had a wealth of knowledge when it came to military life and equipment. He really seemed to enjoy that museum. I also remember watching wrestling at night - just the 2 of us and the dog - while April Billips was out. Mr. And Mrs. Barcume were always very kind and welcoming to me. Mr. Barcume will be missed.

A good man. I remember when we went to the marine musuem in virginia. We saw so much and took lots of pictures. Mr. Barcume shared a plethora of military facts and a couple of stories.

Part 2 taking him back to the Marine base were he once served seeing him getting all excited. I remember shaving his back as children for a quarter and once we had children of our own they gladly took over. He is the kind of man that anyone can talk to and get along with. He is funny and silly. He worked multiple jobs to make sure our mother could always be home with us children and we had the best of everything. Next time I go to my parents house I'm going to miss him yelling at me to get out of the fridge. I'm truly going to miss my father. I Love you dad and you will always be with us. I know your know longer suffering and finally in peace up In heaven with those who passed before with a cup of coffee in your hand. Miss you dad.

I can't believe my father is gone I'm going to miss him so much. I'm going to miss him saying yuppp !!!!! Yahoooooo and all the other silly things he would say to make us laugh. I'm thankful to be able to have slept last Christmas with him and my mom, taking them back to Key West reminding them off their younger years. I'm thankful for me being able to live different place in the US to be able to show him new places. Sharing the 4TH of July at the national mall, taking him back to the Marine

Death is life's greatest mystery. What happens when our soul leaves our body is the most important question in the world. The answer will affect how we live our lives. The world is plagued with the question of what comes after this. When we are faced with the death of a friend or relative, we are stunned with grief. We don't understand, he was here and now he's not, where did he go? Where does the spirit go? The truth is that our soul knows of its eternal nature. If we ask our souls this question in a real way, we will find that we know that we are made from the stuff of eternity.

I remember many of times going to pick up kevin and sure enough theres John to give ya a quick pep talk and a laugh...lost but never forgotten. ..Rip john...

I remember- went olive grarden and he yelled where's the ranch I want my own bowl we said grandpa it's olive garden only caesar salad is here! I always remember growing up, grandma would always yell at grandpa to pull up his pants!! Grandpa you will always be in my heart!! I will miss you!! Love you forever an always!!!

We would get ready for a mini fishing trip with the boys no women allowed.. all we would need is our poles, snacks, and a case of beer and we would be all set. There is nothing more peaceful then spending time with your brother and father fishing. My dad loved to fish and I can't imagine fishing without him... Gone but never forgotten love you dad

My grandpa was really special too me he was a very strange person. He always joked around with everyone.he always made me laugh.he had a big heart.im going to miss the things he did with his fingers.where he would always act like he pulled his fingers off and when he acted like he pulled my nose off and i started crying. I will always remember him calling me janerz. I also will always remember when my grandma would leave he would always say so nice of things about her and how he wanted to take her on a real honeymoon.

He will miss all the kids running all over the place

That means alot to him steve and he knew that too.and thanks for being their with me

A thing I remember the most is all the camping trips and vacations that we went on together as a family; Always going to Canada every week spending time with the family. My Dad loved spending time with us.

What I remember most about grandpa is probably that he used to be like grandma's receptionist and pick up the phone with not "hello" but "yell oh" or that he always needed coffee and loved his westling (that's the exact way he'd say it). Another thing I loved was that you couldn't really say yuuuup around him or he'd be at it all night long. I also realized that you don't realize how much you love a person until it's a little to late. A great author once said, "You can love someone so much, but you can miss them so much more".

A dedicated Veteran, storyteller and war hero.
A man with a passion for Military history.
A person that enjoyed windmills and a good basket of fish and chips.
A supervisor of projects, ones of his creation that needed to be completed, or others that he might be able to give advice on.
A man that did everything he could to make sure his kids were happy.
A person short of patience, but asking for help when he needed it.
A man that enjoyed his tea and a nice cozy fire.

I remember before Christmas that he worked day and night so we could have the best Christmas ever. That he would stay up all night putting our stuff together, and we would sneak down as soon as we heard them go to bed. 
After he got his transplant that all he could talk about is coming out to Washington and seeing his grandbaby. He held her and never wanted to let her go. Taking him up to Mt. Rainier and his finding a stream of fresh water and kneeling down to drink it. Also, especially remember the trip we took together.

I remember him taking us all to Sea World and we went camping at Yogi Bear Park. We got to go fishing for bass. My boys were just so happy as grandpa would help them get dinner.
My dad was a guy who no matter who you was he could just sit and drink his coffee with you as if he knew you forever. He would love to sit and watch people do all kinds of work and always put his input in. It was always so cute to all of us. It was his way of helping out.
