

John was born November 17, 1927 to Edward and Alma (Williams) in Detroit, Michigan. Pontiac was home until the family moved to Lansing in August of 1939. John graduated from Sexton High School in January of 1946 with the first class to complete 3 full years in the new school. John proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was stationed in Hawaii.
On April 7, 1951 John married Betty Hedberg at the First Presbyterian Church in Orlando, Florida. They would have celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary next month. Their two daughters, Leslie and Judy were born in Orlando and Winter Park, Florida. After returning to Michigan, John worked for the State of Michigan, retiring from the Highway Department in 1986 after 30 years of service. After retirement he enjoyed many years playing golf in their winter home in Naples, Florida. His love of golf began in 1940 and continued until 2019. He was proud of the 7 holes in one he made.
John is survived by his wife Betty, daughters Leslie (Malcolm) Miyasato, Judy (Stan) Arens, grandchildren Christi (Edwin) Robinson, Jeffrey (Julie) Arens, Kim (Josh) Lemmer and great granddaughters Avery Robinson, Penny Lemmer, Paige Lemmer and great grandson Wyatt Arens. John was preceded in death by his brother Edward and his sister Phyllis.
In accordance with John’s wishes there will be no services and his ashes will be interred at the Memorial Gardens of the First Presbyterian Church of Lansing. Remembrances may be made to the Benevolence Fund of First Presbyterian Church in Lansing, Michigan.
