Joseph Knowles Gerard

Joseph “Joe” Knowles Gerard, 90, passed away on Tuesday April 30, 2024. He was born on November 2, 1933 in Berkley, Michigan to Raymond and Ada (Chadwick) Gerard. Joe was a postal carrier in Royal Oak for 37 years and also ran a lawn service business for over 20 years. He was a member of the Mount Hope Church of Lansing.

Joe is survived by his wife, Barbara; children, Tim (Lori) Gerard, Richard Gerard, Patricia Sullivan, Phil (Thania) Sullivan, Cynthia (Jeff) Farnquist, Don (Carla) Gerard; son-in-law, Bob Ziebell; 22 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren and 3 great great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; children, Caryl Ziebell and Joseph Gerard, and one grandchild, Richie Gerard.

Joe was a loving, joyful, and kind person that people were very drawn too. A man of faith, quick with a joke, and a song for every occasion. He was hard working and put forth his full effort into everything that he did from work to sports to singing. His family considered him a master of practicing, the Greatest of these is love.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024 at The Church of Clawson, 655 S. Main St., Clawson, Michigan 48017 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Joe’s name to the Church of Clawson.

It is with a both sad and joyful heart that we announce the passing of Joe Gerard, husband, dad, brother, grandpa to three generations, and friend to many. Sad because of how much we will all miss him. He was the master of these words "The Greatest of these is Love" to all that knew him. We can all be joyful for him because he was ready to meet Jesus his Lord, he was a man of deep faith and we his family believe that he is with his Lord now free from pain and full of joy.

There are so many wonderful things to say about him, over the days that follow we will say them all as we remember him.
