

Karen Lee Simmer (Curtis), aged 89, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2024, in Lansing, MI surrounded by family. Born on July 11, 1935, Karen dedicated many years to serving her community as a school bus driver for East Lansing Public Schools, retiring in 1995. She briefly attended nursing school and always maintained a nurturing spirit throughout her life.
Karen was a devout member of St. Therese, where she formed a cherished bond with Father Fain. Her faith was an essential part of her life, guiding her through many of her endeavors and personal relationships.
She was a woman of many interests, including watching Hallmark movies, quilting, and playing cards with her family. Karen loved camping at Ludington and the Warren Sand Dunes State Parks, and her homemade noodles were a staple at family holidays, much to the delight of her loved ones.
Karen was the beloved wife of the late John N. Simmer Jr., to whom she was married for 54 years. She is survived by her children, Mark (Susan) Simmer, Patrick (Sharon) Simmer, Lynn (Ronald) Randall, Kimberly (Mazey) Simmer, and Jeffrey (Brenda) Simmer; 10 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind her siblings, Bryan "Buzz" Curtis, Jeffrey (Cathy) Curtis, Steve (Colleen) Curtis, and Kelly (Eric) Nutter. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Gladys Curtis, sisters Ann "Penny" Curtis, sister-in-law Gayle Curtis, and her special friend, Kathy Boyle.
The family would like to say a special thank you to the Abigail Hospice as well as the St. Lawrence Hospice House for taking such attentive care of their loved one Karen.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Therese Catholic Church located at 102 W Randolph St, Lansing, MI 48906 on November 8th, 2024 starting at 11am. Family will be accepting visitors starting at 10:30am. A brief burial will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery located at 2520 W Willow St, Lansing, MI 48917 following Mass. After burial the family invites visitors to join them at the church for a luncheon.
