LaRae Antoinette Griggs

LaRae (Also known as Rae Rae) was born December 9th, 1979 to James Otis and Karen Ann Griggs (Corley) in Chicago, IL. LaRae and the family relocated to Lansing, MI in 1981. LaRae was diagnosed with Type -1 Diabetes at the age of 7; she lived an impactful loving life with that terminal disease.

LaRae was a proud student of the Lansing School district through graduation; She attended Fairview Elementary, Pattengill Middle School and Eastern High School, home of the Quakers. LaRae was a proud Quaker; she was the class president of the graduating class of 1997. LaRae pursued her Bachelor of Science in Education, with a focus on Special Education from Michigan State University. LaRae was a PROUD Spartan. She was active in multiple RSO’s including but not limited to Holden Black Caucus and the Bomb Squad that brought events such as Fake the Funk, Keep it Real, and Taste of Blackness to MSU’s Campus. LaRae was very active in the Michigan State University Black Alumni chapter as well.

LaRae committed her life to Jesus and being a servant. She displayed Love in action. LaRae was a former member of Living Word Outreach Church, but currently was an active member of St. Stephens Community Church, where she coordinated the youth and children’s ministry. Larae was extremely passionate about children and youth. She spent her free time providing childcare to numerous families in the communities, volunteering through various nonprofits, and working the elections (Precinct Captain). LaRae LOVED people from the heart; she was truly a people’s person.

LaRae’s memory will be cherished by her Mother, Karen Ann Corley; Second Father, Rev. Dr. Charles J. Corley; Sisters, Clarice Burts, Carla (James) Fields, Jamie Griggs, Lauren Corley; Brother, Charles Corley Jr., Grandfather, Rev. Dr. LeRoy Sanders; Adopted Grandmother Lillian Harris; One Special Niece, Brooklynn Griggs; Nephews, Denzel Wilson, Derice Wilson, Deprece Jenkins, Dentrel Jenkins, and Tyler Fields; Godchildren, Caleb Glasscoe and Hanifa Shareef; A host of Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins as well as a host of Special Friends whom she cherished.

She was preceded in death by her Father, James Otis Griggs; Grandparents, Norma Jean Sanders, Vernella and John Griggs and Artie Bell Corley.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00am Monday, November 22, 2021 at The Kellogg Center. Seating will be limited to the first 200 (including family). A livestream of the service will be available at https://webcast.funeralvue.com/events/viewer/64076

Public viewing will be at Tiffany Funeral Home from 5:00-8:00pm on Sunday. Masks are required for both events.
