Stan was born in Lansing, Michigan, where he grew up and later graduated from Everett High School in 1967. He was drafted into the United States Army and proudly served his country in Vietnam. His military service was a source of deep pride throughout his life, and he was an active member of the VFW.
Stan spent his working years in HVAC and construction and took great pride in the home he built with his own hands. He was a true handyman; there wasn’t much he couldn’t fix or figure out. If something was broken, Stan was usually the one people called, unless it was a toilet. Those, he made very clear, were someone else’s problem.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd Keith and Mary Corene Williams, and his sons, Craig and Warren.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Williams; his daughter, Melissa (Ben) Clemons; his stepdaughter, Tera (Tim) Thomas; and his brother, Steve Williams. He was a proud grandfather to Vanessa, Randall, Elijah, Faith, Charlotte, and Angus, and a great-grandfather to Spring, Indigo, and Willow.
Stan was an avid fisherman who especially cherished time spent on the water with his brother, fishing Saginaw Bay and the Detroit River. He also loved mushroom hunting and enjoyed 45 years’ worth of adventures at a place that will go unnamed because mushroom hunters don’t give up their spots, even now.
He leaves behind many lifelong friends, several of whom he stayed in close contact with until the very end, friendships built on loyalty, honesty, and mutual respect.
Stan and Mary spent much of his retirement traveling the country together in their fifth wheel, heading out west and stopping at national parks along the way. They eventually parked their fifth wheel for the winters in Arizona, Texas, Alabama, and Florida. Along the way, they were blessed by the friendships they formed, connections that grew into strong bonds and became an important part of their lives. Those years on the road were filled with adventure, memories, and time well spent together.
Stan was strong for his family, straightforward by nature, and always shot you straight. He was a fighter in every sense of the word, never backing down, standing firm in his beliefs, and fighting hard right through the end. He believed deeply in people’s rights to be who they are and to hold their own opinions, and he lived those values unapologetically.
In true Stan fashion, he requested no formal service, but rather a Celebration of Life, a party, which will be held at a later date. Details will be shared when plans are finalized.
Stan will be remembered for his strength, his honesty, his humor, and the life he lived fully and on his own terms.
