Born on May 7, 1928, in Lansing, Michigan, Lois was the daughter of Ruth E. Coykendall and Ray W. Hodge. She graduated from Grand Ledge High School and later married Richard L. Hodge on September 12, 1948. Though they eventually divorced, the two shared a strong bond and a life dedicated to raising their six children.
Lois was a remarkable woman—organized, competent, and widely respected both personally and professionally. She worked as an executive secretary for CASE Credit Union, where her dedication and reliability left a lasting impression. Her sense of civic duty ran deep; she volunteered as an election worker for many years and remained politically and socially engaged throughout her life.
She had a gentle heart and a sharp mind—sweet yet opinionated, fiercely passionate about human rights, and actively involved in the Catholic Domestic Church movement. Her commitment to justice and helping others was more than a belief—it was how she lived her life.
At home, Lois was known for her warmth and her talents in the kitchen—her lasagna and baked goods were family favorites. She enjoyed painting china and had a deep love for cats as she cherished quiet moments with them. Though she faced profound sorrow through the loss of some of her children, Lois found renewed purpose and joy in being a grandmother to her grandsons, a role she embraced with love and pride.
She will be dearly missed by her daughter and son-in-law, Melissa and Hugh Robertson and their children, Blake (Carrie) and Tiffany (Brad), and grandchildren Nicholas and Daniel, her daughter, Katherine Hodge, and her son, Donald (Kolbrun) Hodge as well as her grandsons, James Hodge and Paul Leonard. She was preceded in death by her parents, her children, Raymond, Paul and Anne Marie and her brothers, Earl Jolly and Charles Everest.
In keeping with her lifelong spirit of generosity and service, Lois chose to donate her body to science—a final act of helping others.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate Lois’s life will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025 from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM at Hugh and Missy’s home: 37530 Amber Dr., Farmington Hills, MI, 48831. Please RSVP to Kitty([email protected]) In lieu of flowers, the family invites you to consider a donation to a human rights or social justice organization in her memory.
