Louis Ernest Piland, 95, of Holt, passed away at home under the loving care of his family and hospice on February 4, 2016. If he could be with us today, he would want us to know the truth of Jesus’ words, “I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live.” John 11:25
Louis was born on January 21, 1925, in the middle of a field, in a tent near the city of Kahlotus, Washington. He was a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri. Louis served in the United States Army Air Corps during WWII European Theater. He was employed with Chrysler Financial as a CPA and was the Assistant Accounting Controller. After retirement, he and his wife, Helen, moved to Englewood, Florida, where they spent many years of their retirement. In 1997 they moved to Holt, Michigan to be closer to their family here in Michigan. Louis was known by many as a great gentleman and family man, which he learned growing up with the “Greatest Generation.”
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen; parents, Ernest and Cora (Newton) Piland; granddaughter, Danielle; brother, Garvin Piland. Surviving are his daughter, Karen (Robert) Reid; son, Gregg (Diana) Piland; three grandchildren, Meagan (Jason) Smith Scott, Kristin (Jason) Juilleret and Joshua (Rachel) Piland; 11 great-grandchildren.
