Here are a few things:
Marie was born at home, delivered by a woman Dr.  At this time home was the owners residence over the Venetian Gardens.  It was a tavern owned by her grandfather at the corner of Chalfonte and Livernois in Detroit.  Later, her family rented a flat on Petoskey St. around the corner.
They had an ice box rather than a Frigidaire and the ice man drove a horse drawn carriage.  He would sometimes give a chunk of ice to Marie and her sister on their way home from school.  She marveled at the timeline of events she got to experience in her life, that she had gone from this to using Facebook.
Marie gave birth to five unruly children between 1955 and 1961.  We were lucky to have her as a mom.  She would take us to the library and read to us.  When we were school aged she was active in PTA and scouting.  She was always room mother for one of us.
When she started college at age 40 she modeled how to be a student.  We weren't ready to emulate her, but the example was there.  She earned her MA from Eastern Michigan University in 1975.
The biggest part of Marie's life was her religion.  Of course we all attended church on Sundays as family.  Marie taught CCD classes at  St. Pricilla's in Livonia.  Later, while a student and a Teaching Assistant at EMU, Marie became involved with the student parish Holy Trinity.  
When Marie moved to Lansing in the early 1980's, she became a member of Holy Cross.  She served as a Eucharistic Minister, a lector, and CCD teacher.  Later, she assisted with the RCIA and became a 3rd order Secular Franciscan.  She loved to attend retreats, and was happy to reconnect with Fr. Larry Delaney who she knew from Holy Trinity.  She was active in Holy Cross parish until they closed in June 2009.  In October 2009, she moved to Traverse City where she belonged to St. Francis.  
When Marie moved to Medilodge of Leelanau, she was happy to once again be able to attend mass and to pray the rosary three times per week with her fellow residents.

So many fond memories of all the times our families spent together!  Aunt Marie was such a big part of those memories…she will be missed!  Our thoughts and prayers to Kathy, Peggy, Joe & Jane and thinking of Jack as well. It was a year ago that Mom passed…now the sisters are reunited! Take comfort in a life well lived,❤️
