Marissa "Rizza" Marie Benton

Marissa "Rizza" Marie Benton lived a life that could not simply be summed up in an obituary. For most, thinking of Rizza is embracing imperfection, chaos and beauty all at once. Rizza was an artist and a visionary, allowing their passion for art and making people feel beautiful to come together as an owner and stylist at Roots Hair Lounge in Lansing. Rizza made sure every person walked out of their door feeling and looking great and created a safe place for everyone. They were an explosion of creativity and anything Rizza touched showed their artistic nature and talents. Whether it was painting, photoshop, silkscreening, developing or creating- Rizza did it with passion and a heart for making the world better. While being a business owner, volunteer and all-around badass, Rizza's proudest title was "mom". With Michael, Rizza raised their beautiful son, Oliver Chadwick. Rizza will be missed by Oliver and Michael; mother and stepfather, Lisa Benton and Lars Pereboom; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. The lives of Rizza and their partner, Sydney Eckhoff, and their sweet baby, River, will be missed by all who knew them. A visitation for Rizza will be held Sunday, November 27, 2022 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 East Michigan Ave, Lansing, MI 48912, followed by a funeral service from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Planned Parenthood of Lansing, Punks with Lunch or The Trevor Project.
