

She was born on May 10, 1943 to Ivan and Sarah Sleeper. She graduated from Everett High School and Lansing Community College. Mary Lou worked as a licensed practical nurse until she married Leighton A. Tiedeman on June 18, 1966. After marrying Leighton, Mary Lou became a homemaker and raised their three children.
Mary Lou loved to sew. She made many outfits for herself, her children and grandchildren. She was actively involved in Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and the quilts for missions group until dementia took that away from her. Mary Lou loved volunteering for the Lansing Food Bank for many years.
Mary Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Leighton.
Mary Lou is survived by her children, Traci (Stephen) Asman of Grand Ledge, Matthew Tiedeman, and Betsy (Trent) Mauk; eight grandchildren, Sarah (Jason) Peiffer, Elizabeth (Jeffrey) Renton, Kirsten Tiedeman, Ryan Tiedeman, Alexis Tiedeman, Savannah Mauk, Ryleigh Mauk, and Levi Mauk; and three great-grandchildren. Siblings, Marla Pollok and Ivan (Kay) Sleeper, as well as brother-in-law, Kenneth Root, also survive her.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Brookdale Delta Memory Care for all the love and care they gave Miss Mary Lou. Thanks also to Hospice of Lansing.
A visitation for Mary Lou will be held on Friday, August 22, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Gorsline Runciman Tiffany Chapel, 3232 W Saginaw St., Lansing, MI 48917. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, August 23, 2025 at 11:00 AM, with a one-hour prior visitation from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, at the funeral home, Pastor Delwyn Campbell officiating.
