Thanks to all of you for your kind thought and words. I especially needed to see them today. He was definitely the kindest most selfless human being I know. I thank God everyday that I was fortunate to have him as my father.

Mr. Horski was my teacher at Otto Jr. High. I was an insecure child who was taken under his wing. He allowed me to spend my lunch in his classroom while he shared white grapefruits and sat across the table talking about many things. 
Over the years those memories have encouraged me through many moments. 
His impact was lifelong. He will never be forgotten.

Dear Uncle Maury,  How can I begin to thank you for all your words of advice and encouragement over many years!  Thank you for being such a great Uncle!!  I remember the day we sat down and you showed me how to make lesson plans to teach in a one room school in 1963.  In fact I still have the form we worked out and used it at Whitedog School in Williamston as well as Miers in Charlotte!  What an encouragement you were to me during that first year of teaching.  I remember you and Aunt Eloda giving me a room to stay in while attending Lansing Community College and I remember many of the talks that we had about Daddy, the golf course, will man ever reach the moon and so many more topics.  Thanks for taking Becky and me to Houghton Lake when we were kids...one of the few vacations that we had....but a very memorable time and I so much appreciated getting a picture of that special time.
You were a great inspiration as a teacher and I listened closely to your words of wisdom.  Thank you for being such a special Uncle and for sharing your 4 kids who are some of my best friends.  Thanks to you and Aunt Margo who worked so long and diligently to find "our" family in Poland, the write ups and pictures are a great treasure for me.  You are loved! Just wanted to give my condolences to the Horski family.  I remember Maurice as a coach for the St Joseph Catholic School Basketball Team in the late 50-60's. Dave you and I were classmates, and friends at St Joes. I remember your Dad as a soft spoken gentleman. I know that he will be missed.  Just wanted you to know I hadn't forgotten

My thoughts and prayers are with Maurice's family. He was a gracious gentleman. In addition to his contributions as a soldier in World War II and his long teaching career, he was a member of Michigan State's 1940-42 cross country teams. I met him several years ago as a result of that affiliation and was privileged to share stories and information; including a short video clip from the 1941 NCAA championship race in East Lansing. I'm very sorry to hear of his passing.

I was fortunate to have Mr. Horski as a teacher for Chemistry and Physics while a student at Rodney B. Wilson, St. Johns.  He was clearly one of the best teachers I had. He will be remembered in my thoughts and prayers.

Maury you will be missed.  You have been a big part of our lives for a long time.  Rest in peace.

Thanks to Jim Fenner for notifying me of Mr. Horski's death.  I often think of him.  He was one my two favorite  high school teachers in St. Johns.  I took both chemistry and physics from him.   I have a mental image of a pleasant Spring afternoon in 1958 in his classroom.  He was lecturing on some topic I no longer recall, standing near the windows and looking afar.   He stopped speaking and the room went completely quiet.  He had gone a million miles away, perhaps to the stars.  He was an extraordinary man, possessed of great dignity and grace and I have always respected him.  We were so fortunate to have him in our lives, not only for the love of learning he modeled,  but for his examples of kindness and humanity.

Mr. Horski was my chemistry and physics teacher at Rodny B. Wilson HS as a junior and senior. I graduated in 1956. He was my inspiration to pursue a career as as physics teacher. I was a physics teacher, primarily in Troy, MI for 35 years, retiring in 1997. During all those years, I always looked back to the inspiration I received from Mr. Horski.  Many years into my career, Mr Horski called me and asked if he could visit me in my classroom. Of course I agreed instantly. To my great surprise, he brought to me my original term paper I had written in 1956 for his physics class. He had retained it for more than 20 years. Needless to say, it almost brought me to tears. One of the great highlights of my life and career. I still have and treasure that paper. My greatest condolences to the family of the man who inspired me and hundreds of others, I'm sure to achieve and be all that they could be.  Jim Fenner, RBW, St. Johns, Class of 1956

Dear Dave, Susie, Sandi, & Jean,
   As you all know I have very fond memories of time spent with your family in Lansing when I was young.  My visits there gave me opportunities to see what life was like in "the big city".  I think Uncle Maury enjoyed introducing me to experiences that he knew I didn't have growing up on a dairy farm in South Haven.  I was so excited when he took us to the drive-in theater for the first time!  Jean and I were probably only about 7 or 8, so he packed pillows and blankets so we could go to sleep when we were tired as he was going to stay to watch every feature being shown.  I can remember waking up about 2:00 a.m. to see "The Fly" on the giant screen and it scared me to death LOL!  Of course I'll never forget when Sandi, Jean and I decided we were going to "put on a show" and invite the whole neighborhood.  Uncle Maury actually built a stage for us in the garage complete with a curtain. We thought we were "summer stock" :).   It is one of the fondest memories I have from my childhood.  
    I feel so blessed that family was so important to our parents and that they always made the effort to keep us all connected.  That connection has remained through the generations.  With our sons choosing to go to MSU as ROTC cadets and with us living in Louisville, Uncle Maury always made the effort to represent Woody and me at awards ceremonies that we couldn't attend and proudly joined us for our youngest son Jonathan's commissioning ceremony in 2007.  We enjoyed that time (2000-2007) as well because it gave us an opportunity to reconnect with Uncle Maury as he would usually try to meet us at Flap Jack's for breakfast when we went up to see the boys.  
    I am sorry not to be able to be there on Tuesday, but you know that you are all in my thoughts and prayers.  Saying "goodbye" is hard, but it is certainly less hard, when one is filled with so many happy memories.  I know that there are many people who can say the same.
