

St. Joseph, Michigan
age 75, died suddenly July 3, 2013. Born November 17, 1937 and raised in Detroit, MI. He was preceded in death by his parents Mary Ann and Michael II. He was a devoted husband to Sue who died July 4, 2006. Mike served his Country First the Navy and then the Air Force. Mike graduated from Michigan State University in 1965. He began his career as a Child Welfare Worker in 1963 in Lansing, MI. From 1965 to 1971 Mike was a U.S. Air Force Security Police Officer, during this time Mike and Sue were stationed in Guam and other places around the U.S. where they developed many lifelong friendships. After leaving the service they returned to Lansing and Mike worked for several years for Ingham County Probate and Juvenile Court. From 1980 to 1985 Mike was the City Administrator for the City of Milan, MI. They stayed in the Detroit area after that with Mike working in Legal Consulting and Sue doing Real Estate. Mike and Sue moved to Saint Joseph, MI. in 1991, where Mike was employed for Berrien County Trial Court Family Division and Sue continued her career in Real Estate. They both loved the Saint Joseph area and loved being close to the water and beaches. They both enjoyed their home, football games, entertaining friend and family, and decorating and celebrating EVERY holiday. After losing Sue to cancer and retiring from Berrien County, Mike accepted a position in Standish, MI, as the City Manager. MIke enjoyed the area made some great friends there but needed to make a decision where to spend his retirement years, it seemed the view of Lake Michigan and the many friends in the area were calling him home. Mike loved people, had a wonderful sense of humor and a very deep infectious laugh. He was a very giving, generous and thoughtful man who never missed on occasion to send his family, extended families and their families a greeting card for every occasion. Mike is survived by extended families Debi and Russ Sanches, Suzie and Bob Davies, Sandy and Dale Retrum, cousins Claudia Bourgeois and Shirley Wiley. He also leaves behind his best friend and devoted Kitty, Tulip. A special thank you to good friends Diane and Bob Yampolsky for being Tulip's new parents and to Alice Davis for all her help during this difficult time. Thank you to Dr. Durham, Dr. Allen, Lonzo, Robin and everyone in CCU for your compassionate care. A graveside memorial service will take place Saturday, July 13, 2013 at 1PM at Hillside Cemetery, on Delta River Drive, Delta Township, MI, with a luncheon to follow, all are welcome to attend.
