She was born on November 25, 1928 in Saginaw, Michigan, to Martha (Gilles) and Alfred Peters. Norine was a graduate of Sts. Peter and Paul High School in Saginaw, attended CMU, and earned her degree in elementary education from MSU.
While attending CMU, she met the love of her life, Herman Van Drie. They married in 1950. Over the course of their marriage, Norine taught elementary school both public and Catholic in numerous cities in Michigan, Florida, and Grand Cayman Island, BWI. She was a beloved teacher who went far above her role as an educator.
Mom's Catholic faith was always at the center of her life. She was a member of Resurrection Church and the Altar Society. In her final days, she often said that she was excited to go and be with Jesus, The Blessed Virgin, and her beloved "Herm".
She was a devoted and proud mom. Always putting her children ahead of herself, even at the end.
Her children include daughters, Martha (husband Baisel) Rhynard of Bath, MI and Linda (husband Carl) Andrzjewski of Reading, PA, and son, Kurt Van Drie of Mt. Airy, NC. She had 9 grandchildren: Jeffrey Van Drie, Paul Van Drie, Zachary Rhynard, Stefanie (Rhynard) Jubb, Nicholas Rhynard, Alexsander Van Drie, Christian Van Drie, Delaney Doran, and Emilee Andrzjewski. There are also 9 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Herman, in 2006; her infant son, Gary; sister, Marion Boswell; infant great-granddaughter, Annabelle Jubb; and daughter-in-law, Nancy Van Drie.
