

Paul David Hodges Sr., born August 14, 1929 to Freeman and Elizabeth (Norman) Hodges, passed away September 16, 2017. Paul graduated as valedictorian of South Haven High School and earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil engineering from the University of Michigan. He retired from the Michigan Department of Public Health after 32 years as an environmental engineer.
Paul was a life member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and past president of its Grand Valley Chapter. He was also a fellow of the American Society of Civil Engineers and was elected to the American Academy of Environmental Engineers.
He was a past president of the Sons of the Revolution in the State of Michigan, a member of the Order of Founders and Patriots of America, and a life member of the Sons of Spanish-American War Veterans. He served various offices in the Sons of Union Veterans Department of Michigan and Curtenius Guard Camp No. 17, including Camp Commander and Department Commander. He served in the U.S. Army as a topographic surveyor in Alaska.
He was a longtime member and elder of North Westminster Presbyterian Church, as well as former Clerk of Session and church treasurer.
Paul was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Donna (Beutler) Hodges. Surviving to cherish his memory are daughter Bethany Fontaine; son Paul Jr. (Jody) Hodges; grandchildren Brianna (Matthew), Kathelyn, Jason, Jennifer (Doug), and Jamie (Tyler); great-grandchildren Allen, Thomas, Delilah, Willow, Odessa, and Nyla; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service, officiated by Rev. Timothy Chon, will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at North Westminster Presbyterian Church, 743 N. Martin Luther King Blvd, Lansing, Michigan 48915. The family will receive friends for visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Lansing. Those desiring may make contributions to North Westminster Presbyterian Church in memory of Paul Hodges.
