Age 91, our loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather went home to be with his Lord on April 18, 2016. Richard was a U.S. Navy veteran. He retired as a truck driver in 1990 from Blue Arrow Trucking Co. after 52 years of service. He was a member of Carpenters for Christ and the Eaton County Republican Party. He was an old car, truck, and tractor buff, and enjoyed traveling, visiting 48 states.
Surviving are his wife of 66 years, Beverly (Potter) Schlak; 2 daughters, Judy (Randy) Higdon, Diane (Larry) Ong; 2 sons, Clifford (Susan) Schlak, and John (Julie) Schlak; 15 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Edward & Naomi Schlak; brother, Ferdinand Schlak; granddaughter, Carrie Schlak; great-grandson, Garret Whiddon.
Visitation is from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Wednesday in the Tiffany Funeral Home, 3232 W. Saginaw, Lansing. Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday, April 21, 2016 at Faith Bible Church, 5211 W. St. Joe Hwy., Lansing, MI with Pastor Gene Harris officiating. There will be a luncheon immediately following the graveside service at the church. Interment will be in Delta Center Cemetery with Military Honors by Morley S. Oates V.F.W. Post #701. Memorial Contributions can be made to Faith Bible Church.
