Rosalee Ann Shafley (Challender), born on November 8, 1957 in Lansing, Michigan, passed away on May 26, 2018. Rose was a 1975 graduate of Lansing Everett High School. She married the love of her life Bob on January 17, 1981 in Lansing, Michigan. So began her 18 year career as a U.S. Air force military wife. Living in Florida, West Germany, Texas, and North Carolina provided several opportunities for Rose to use her leadership and team-building skills to fill high-level volunteer positions with the Lone Star Girl Scout Council of Austin, Texas. Those experiences helped Rose advance from a cashier to a manager with McDonalds in Fayetteville, North Carolina which included graduating from its Hamburger University in Oak Park, Illinois. Bob’s retirement in 1998 brought Rose home to Michigan to reconnect with her family and High School Friends. Soon after coming home she began a long and painful struggle with chronic migraine headaches, complicated by Lupus and Fibromyalgia. Through her life Rose enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Dr. Phil was her must-see TV show and she recently became a trivia-night fan with her sister Kathy’s family and her own son R.J. She always said that she “just wanted to be a wife and mother.” She was that and so much more. She will be missed!
Rose is preceded in death by her father, Bert Challender. She is survived by her husband of 37 years Robert; mother, AnnaMarie of Harrison, MI; sisters, Bonnie Sant, Kathy (Dan) Barnette; brother, Jay Challender; daughters, Jennifer Shafley, Sarah (David Jr.) Houser; son, Robert J.; and grandchildren, Caitlin, David III and Matthew.
