Rosaleen Elizabeth Hall, 91 went home to our Lord Jesus Christ on February 8, 2025. She was born on September 12, 1933, in Portland, Michigan, the eldest child of Frederick and Lillian Leik Fernholz. She graduated in 1952 from Portland High School and soon after, married Peter J. Hall on June 14, 1952. They were married for 40 years until his death in 1993. Rosie started working from a very young age at the Hotel Divine and Albert’s Restaurant in Portland. She worked for many years as a waitress at Jean’s Restaurant. She retired along with Pete to Port Charlotte, Florida in 1989 and moved back to Michigan in 2007. Rosie was a former president of the American Legion Auxiliary, Dale Hyland Post 129 in Portland. She was an avid bowler well into her 80’s before her stroke prohibited her. She loved to crochet, play cards and bingo, work on crossword puzzles, read and spend time with her family and friends. Rosie loved attending her grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s school activities. Humorously, it was frowned upon to call or interrupt her while Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, Detroit Lions and Tigers, and MSU football and basketball was on TV. She will be remembered as a very hard worker, her smile, contagious laugh, and her home cooking.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, grandsons Darrell McNutt, Jr. (DJ) and Lane Hartwick II, great-grandson Gabriel Hartwick, brothers Jerry and Robert Fernholz, sister Lorena Smith, mother-in-law Violet Hall, sister-in-law Shirley Brown and brothers-in-law Henry Fedewa, Lee Smith, James Thompson and Harold Brown.

The family would like to thank Shelby Moore and staff at Moore’s AFC Home in Charlotte and the staff of Sparrow Hospice for taking such wonderful care of Mom during her last years.
Memorial services will be at St. Michael’s Church in Grand Ledge on April 5th at 11 am. There will be a 1-hour visitation prior to service. Interment will be at Portland Cemetery.
