Shelby Jean Abbott

Shelby Jean Abbott, age 82 of Fenwick, MI formerly of Lansing, MI passed away on Friday, May 28, 2021 at her home with her family by her side. She was born July 23, 1938 in Oil City, PA the daughter of the late Samuel C. and Florence L. (Rhodes) Schreckengost.

Shelby was an avid reader and devout Christian, she was very proud that she had read her Bible from cover to cover seven different times. Family was where her heart was. When her children were young she would entice them and their friends to stay in her sights with popsicles, Shelby knew everyone was safe if they were nearby for her to watch over. She had a true gift of making everyone feel included and truly loved everyone. Those that called her Mom, Grandma and Mimi were not always relatives and she cherished all alike. In her memory, always share an “I love you” and a kiss on the cheek when you leave the ones you love.

Shelby is survived by her 4 children, Ronald (Wenlin) Abbott, Steve Abbott, Brenda Maxwell, and Douglas (Gloria) Abbott; 14 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; brother, James (Joyce) Schreckengost; sister, Carolyn (Steve) Tinker. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. Shelby was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Raymond Abbott, 2 sisters, Patricia and Julie, also her brother, Samuel.

A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Friday, June 4, 2021 at Tiffany Funeral Home, Lansing. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Funeral Home. Interment will follow at East Lawn Memory Garden, Okemos. Those desiring to make a Memorial Contribution in Shelby’s honor may do so to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
