She was born to Jose and Felisiana Delapaz in Shiro, Texas, and was later raised in East Lansing, Michigan, where she built a life centered on family, faith, and love. She was the devoted wife of Jose Ledesma, with whom she shared 62 beautiful years of marriage.
Irene was a proud and loving mother to her four daughters: Debbie Jo Martinson, Wendy Jo Loftus, Betty Jo Ragucci, and Esperanza Ledesma. Her greatest joy was her family. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, all of whom were deeply loved and cherished by her.
She dedicated her life to being a stay-at-home mother and homemaker, caring for her husband, her children, and later playing a central role in the lives of her grandchildren. She was the steady presence at the center of her family, the one who held everything together, guided by love, strength, and unwavering devotion.
Irene was known for her strong will, determination, and selfless nature, as well as her bold, fiery personality that those close to her recognized and loved. She spoke her mind, cared deeply, and loved fiercely, all in equal measure.
She found joy in life’s simple routines, watching her daytime soap operas and game shows, enjoying her favorite snacks (often with her eyes bigger than her stomach), and staying closely connected to her family. She always wanted to know what was going on and took a genuine interest in even the smallest details, a reflection of how deeply she cared for those she loved.
Her faith was the foundation of her life. Irene was a devoted and unwavering Christian who faithfully read scripture, prayed daily, and often offered prayer and comfort to others. Many came to her seeking guidance and peace, knowing her faith was strong and sincere. Her guiding belief was to trust in God and “put everything in His hands,” and she often encouraged others to “be the better person.”
She will be remembered for her strength, her humor, her devotion to family, and the deep love she gave so freely throughout her life. Her presence shaped generations, and her legacy will continue through all who knew and loved her.
A public visitation will be held on Monday, May 4th, 2026, at Gorsline Runciman Tiffany Chapel in Lansing, Michigan, beginning at 12:00 p.m., followed by a service in memory of her life
