

Born on June 7, 1937 in Hot Springs, Virginia, the son of the late James and Lucy (Hise) Shaffier, passed away on June 2, 2013 at the age of 75. Vern fought a very hard and long fight to recover from his recent surgeries and continued to fight for his wife and family even though he was very tired and didn’t want to go on. Preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers and 2 sisters. Surviving to cherish his memory are his loving wife Pam, 6 daughters Tammy Wilson, Pamella Shaffier, Tina (Bill) Jakovac, Audrey (Matt) Clark, Shelly Shaffier and Angie (Kevin) Jacobs; and one son Jon (Liz) Phillips; fourteen grandchildren; four great grandchildren; brother Julian (Peggy); two sisters, Margaret Corbett, and Susan (Arliee) Propst; and sister-in-law Delana Shaffier. Vern will be remembered as a very special man and a very loving huband, father and grandfather. He also loved the MSU Spartans, Detroit Lions Football, and NASCAR-Dale Earnhardt Jr. #88. He enjoyed his many vacations and trips to the casino. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildrens’ sporting events. In honor of Vern’s 76th birthday, which is this Friday, the family welcomes those attending the visitation wear their favorite Spartan apparel. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Sparrow Specialty Hospital for their loving and compassionate care of Vern. A funeral service will be held on Saturday June 8, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, 900 E. Michigan Ave, Lansing, MI. The family will receive friends on Friday, June 7, 2013 from 2:00~4:00 PM and 6:00~8:00 PM at the funeral home.
