With a heavy heart and sadness, Wendy Sue Thaens (Kosloski), 56, passed away on Thursday January 30th, 2025, in Owosso, Michigan. Wendy was born on September 15, 1968, to her loving and wonderful parents, Danny and Beverly Kosloski in Alliance, Nebraska. She shared her childhood with her best friend and sister, Nicole Matteson (Kosloski). She graduated from Eaton Rapids High School in 1986 where she cheered and spent countless days making memories with friends. She met her soulmate and love of her life Daniel Thaens Jr. in 1988, and they were married at United Methodist Church in Grand Ledge, Michigan on October 7, 1989. They moved to Tennessee shortly after being wed and together they had two children. In December 1990 they welcomed their spunky baby boy, Jacob Thaens and in October of 1992 welcomed their sweet baby girl, Tori Hull (Thaens). In 2001 Dan and Wendy moved back to their roots in Michigan and raised their children in Grand Ledge while continuing to build the most amazing memories together. Wendy was diagnosed as a type I diabetic at a young age and faced many health battles because of it. In 2018 she was blessed with a new Kidney after battling end stage renal disease and named her new little kidney bestie “Hymie”. She protected Hymie with her entire being and did her best to keep him healthy because he gave her a second chance at life and she didn’t want to take that for granted. Wendy knew her time with Hymie was limited so she committed to making as many memories as she could with her family not knowing how much time she truly had and boy did she make some memories. In December 2024 she was diagnosed with Covid and RSV, she fought hard and overcame many hurdles, but unfortunately pneumonia set in and her body became tired. She fought as long and as hard as her body would allow her to but even the fiercest warriors can’t win every battle.
Wendy loved spending her time with her family both immediate and extended. She enjoyed making memories with her grandbabies and living in every moment she could while she was here on earth. She enjoyed going boating, sitting at the beach, fishing, singing, dancing, a good true crime documentary, quality time with friends, going on adventures and making the most out of every moment with everyone she loved.
Wendy will forever be remembered for her love, strength, confidence, and fierceness. She had a one of a kind personality with the ability to light up every room she walked in. From her epic karaoke skills to her sarcasm and infectious laugh, she would never leave a room without being heard and leaving behind amazing memories. Wendy had a massive heart that made everyone she knew feel heard and loved. Every single friend or family member that entered her home left feeling like there was somewhere they could belong and feel welcomed; in a way she became everyone’s favorite second momma. Wendy’s loyalty and commitment to her family and friends was unmatched. A fierce momma bear who would protect her children from anything and always make sure they were going to be okay. She would do everything she could to be there for her loved ones and help them out when they were feeling low. One thing about Wendy is that she was always unapologetically herself no matter what and she always stood firm in who she was and her beliefs.
Wendy is survived by her soulmate and spouse, Daniel Thaens Jr,; children, Jacob Thaens and Tori (Joshua) Hull; grandchildren, Kennedy Hull, Addy Sue Thaens, Nolan Hull; parents, Danny and Beverly Kosloski; sister, Nicole (Jason) Matteson; mother-in-law, Therese “Dee” Thaens; sisters-in-law, Trisha Thaens and Tracey (Steve) Edgar; nephews, Danny (Deanna) Nelson, Trevor Nelson, Easton Matteson, and Dean Raedle; nieces, Jayden Matteson, Molly Raedle, and Delaney Raedle. Wendy was preceded in death by her grandparents, William and Arletta Kosloski; grandmother, Livonia Tucker; aunt, Carla Kosloski, and father-in-law, Daniel Thaens Sr.
There will not be a funeral service, instead a private burial will take place in the Spring of 2025 followed by a small Celebration of Life with details to follow.
