William L. Geiger, age 90, went to be with his Lord on October 8, 2011, at Burcham Hills in East Lansing. He was born July 10th, 1921, in Chicago, Illinois, to Herman and Hattie Geiger and lived most of his life in Chicago. After graduating from high school, he began his career in 1939 as a machinist. However, his work was interrupted in 1943 when he was called to serve in the Navy. He was always very proud of his service in the SeaBees on Saipan and Okinawa. After the war, he attended Chicago Technical College and received a BS in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for the Mall Tool Company before joining the Skil Corporation in 1961. He worked there for 37 years and retired in 1998. Among his many accomplishments at Skil was his design of an orbital sander for which he was awarded a patent. But his church and his Lord were of far greater importance to him than any other work or service. He served for 26 years as the Treasurer of the Mt. Prospect, Illinois, Church of the Nazarene, sang in the choir and did whatever else needed to be done around the church. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Hattie, his wife of 49 years, Lois, and his sister, Ruth Keeler of Jackson, Michigan. He is survived by his son, Dwight, his daughter, Luanna (Tom) Hruska, and his grandsons, Thomas, Stephen, and Philip Hruska. A graveside service will be held Thursday, October 13, 11:00 AM at Mount Greenwood Cemetery, 2900 W. 111th Street in Chicago. Friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to South Church of the Nazarene, 401 W. Holmes, Lansing, MI 48910, or to the charity of your choice. The family is being served by the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, Lansing. On line condolences may be made at www.grlansing.com
