

Aida Munoz, 98, of Largo, FL, died on August 31, 2012. Aida was born in what she calls “Puerto Rico, the island of enchantments, the shining star of the Caribbean, small but beautiful” on October 19, 1913. She was the oldest of four daughters of a well to do family. Her father was a businessman, politician and sportsman owning several race horses. A street in San Juan is named after him, Martin Fernandez Street.
Aida attended an exclusive all-girls school and after graduation worked at a government workers’ compensation office until her marriage to Santiago Munoz, a hotel sales manager. Together, they managed the Grand Hotel in St. Thomas, VI, USA during the war years. Later they worked together in various hotels in Puerto Rico until their move to Caracas, Venezuela. He managed the Avila Rockerfeller-owned hotel and she was again the executive housekeeper. They returned to Puerto Rico after 8 years in Caracas to run the two hotels, Condado and La Concha, at the Convention Center. Aida’s work as executive housekeeper involved hiring personnel, their education, inventory and overseeing the many facets of this work. She wrote the study manual for her personnel.
She and Santiago “Chago” retired and lived in Largo, FL, USA until March 2004 when Aida entered Encore. During their 23 years before Chago died in March of 2001, they were very active in various organizations including the Grangers, Largo Lioness Club, Shriners, Masons and social clubs such as World Circle Language Club and the Clearwater Garden Club. She also enjoyed playing the piano, bridge, writing poems, stories and gathering family history information. All these papers are well kept for generations to come. Aida and Chago were blessed with 64 years of marriage.
Aida is survived by her sisters, Irma Wigley of Largo and Daisy Young of Miami, FL her nieces, nephews and extended family. She will be truly missed by all.
