Amelina “Nina” Nappi went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 7th, 2017. She was 88 years of age at the time of her going home. She was pre-deceased by many loving family members; husband of 52 years Andrew, parents Salvatore and Mary Consolo, grandparents Giovanna and Bartolo Cavalli, older brother Eugene and younger sisters Mabel, Joan and Angela; and grandson, Andrew Nappi.
She was a loving “mom” to two children, Vincenza (Jim) Gatti, Andrew (Tammy)Nappi.
Nina was “Nana” to grandchildren Nina Lynch, Vincenza Gatti, James Gatti, Andrew Nappi, Kristin Nappi and Kirsty Roach; great grandchildren E.J. Vildostequi, Cade and Aiden Lynch, Carlo Gatti, Audrina Roach and great-great grandmother to Anthony Patrick Vildostequi.
During her lifetime, Nina saw and participated in seven generations beginning with her own grandmother Giovanna Cavalli, whom she loved very much; completing the family chain with her great- great grandson Anthony Patrick Vildostequi.
She loved children and babies and delighted in watching them after school as well as attending grandparent and child school functions over the course of three plus decades.
Making sure everyone, especially all her babies had enough to eat, was very important to her and she delighted in cheering everyone on with the classic Italian encouragement of Mangia! Mangia! Since she was an excellent cook and baker who could turn simple ingredients into a feast, Nina always had willing takers for second and even third helpings of her delicious cooking. Her kitchen and dining room were multi-generational gathering places that will never be replaced or duplicated.
Nina was a graduate of Bay Ridge High School in Brooklyn, New York and a dedicated public servant for most of her professional career. She retired from the New York State Department of Taxation and Finance and moved to Florida where she was employed by the Florida Department of Veterans Affairs until her final retirement from the workforce. She excelled in office administration and book keeping. Nina was an avid reader and possessed a razor-sharp mind, manually balancing her checkbook and paying her own bills up until two days before her passing. She will be missed by everyone whose life she touched with her friendship and love.
Nina loved children and it broke her heart to see any child suffer from disease. Because of her passion for the little ones, her request was that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the St. Jude Children’s Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. https://shop.stjude.org/GiftCatalog/donation.do?cID=14262&pID=24671&sc_icid=home-btn-donate-now
