Dear Javier, 
I was thinking of your dear father Dr Cubero  and googled him today.  I was sad to find his obituary and am sending my very late condolences.  You chose a wonderful picture of your Dad. I had him for Spanish class at LHS and was in his Spanish club and honor society. I loved the way he brought life to the class and the culture as he taught. He opened a door that I wanted to look through and experience. I cannot eat flan without always thinking of him and have continued to use my Spanish in my travels. When I wonder if I could learn more even now I always hear positive encouragement and see his great smile. The world is not as bright without him.

My deepest condolences to your family.  My sister, through a friend, shared this news with me.  I was a student of Dr. Cubero's at LHS in the mid 80's (Spanish, AP Spanish and Spanish Club).  Dr. Cubero was a kind and wonderful teacher and mentor, and a true gentleman.  His zest for life and zeal for all things Cuban was catching!!   I can still hear him say '21 Jump Street' in his Cuban accent, I loved watching Menudo episodes and remember well our fiestas in class where we would all have to research and prepare a dish to share (without the help of the internet or Food Network)!  I am truly blessed to have known him.  What fond memories! I still use the Spanish I learned, and believe or not, my husband and children have heard many stories through the years about him.  When my brother was ordained a deacon, and then, priest for the Diocese of St. Petersburg in 1995-96, Dr. Cubero helped me prepare the pronunciations as I was asked to read a reading in Spanish at the bi-lingual Ordination Mass; he made sure to listen in on the radio that day.  I wish I had a moment to tell Dr Cubero these things!  He was one of those teachers who truly made a difference.  You have my heartfelt prayers.  Eternal rest grant unto him O Lord!

My deepest condolences to your family. Dr. Cubero was my high school Spanish teacher for four years in the early 1990s.  I have fond memories of him bringing Spanish to life through literature, Spanish television & movies, and food. He'd be pleased to know I used what I learned in his class many times in my life.

My condolences to your family. Dr. Cubero was my Spanish teacher at Largo High in the early 1990s.  He was kind, passionate about teaching and truly cared about his class. I still remember with fondness watching a Spanish tv show in his class each week and him bringing in homemade flan. He was a wonderful man and was saddened to hear this news.
