Barbara Frommann was born as Annie Alberta Barbara Hainsworth. She was born in 1938 and grew up in a house named Kingslee Bank, in Formby, England. She had older twin brothers and an older sister, with whom she was very close. Growing up during the war, she had to take gas masks to school and ration food, but still managed to have a wonderful childhood. Barbara played field hockey in high school in Waterloo and loved dancing ballet with her dear friend, Minnie. Her sister, Doris, got married and moved to Canada. When Doris had her first child, Barbara moved there to help her. While in Canada, she met her future husband Hans, at a dance. They fell in love and became inseparable. Barbara and Hans got married in England and moved to Germany to live for the next 4 years. They moved there to work at his mother and father’s shoe store. When she lived in Germany, she learned to speak fluent German and even worked as an interpreter. Barbara and Hans wanted to experience life in America. They loved to travel and eventually moved to Florida. Along the journey they visited 42 states.
In 1968 their first daughter, Angela was born. Five years later, in 1973, their family grew with the birth of Nicole. Barbara stayed at home raising her girls for 10 years. Even after going back to work, Barbara was sure to be home every day when her girls came home from school. When she did go back to work, she chose to teach preschool and started her career at Kreative Kids in Seminole, where she stayed for about 18 years. She then went on to teach at Anona Christian Preschool until her first grandchild was born in 2014. During this time, she touched so many young lives with her energetic spirit, patience and passion for children. Many of her students still recall how much fun preschool was because of their wonderful teacher. She truly treated each child like they were her own.
It’s no surprise that when her grandchildren, Isabel & Liam, were born that she became the perfect grandmother. They were the apples of her eye. She cared for them for almost 5 years and loved both of them dearly. She helped take them to and from school and even let them sleep over many nights. Several nights per week she sat with her children and grandchildren and read fairytales while displaying the story on a felt board.
Barbara was one of a kind and always made time for her friends. She loved her family & friends fiercely and had so many unique hobbies. Barbara & Hans loved college football (Go Gators!) and were season ticket holders for a number of years. She loved to cook and made many unique and delicious meals. Her passion for children and their education was a common thread during her life. She also loved her dogs with all her heart. She took them for walks every day and cared for them like children. She called them her grand-pups. She also loved to travel and traveled all over Europe with her family.
She was preceded in death by her twin brothers, John and Alexander Hainsworth. Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Hans G. Frommann; her daughters, Angela and Nicole Frommann of Seminole, FL; her two grandchildren, Isabel and Liam; her sister, Doris Avgerinos; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will take place on Sunday, January 27, 2019 at 11am, with a reception to follow from 12-2pm at Serenity Funeral Home & Serenity Gardens Memorial Park. Donations may be made in her honor to the SPCA of Tampa Bay.
Barbara will be so missed. She lived each day fully and with love. If we can learn anything from her, it is to be positive and always put family first.
