Christopher Lawrence Downey

Chris was a devoted and loving husband to Heidi Jo Downey, father to Rachael Downey, Meghan and Blake Wellen and grandfather to Lennon. He is also survived by his parents Jeanne and Bill, siblings Matt (Jennifer) Bowers, Amy (Chris) Recker, Rita (Dallas) Wells, and Billy (Kristy) Bowers, along with many nieces and nephews, extended family members and dear friends who meant the world to him.

Chris was known for his wonderfully detailed stories and for being a true guardian angel to everyone he knew. He had a rare gift for connection — he could strike up a conversation with anyone and walk away with a new friend with every interaction. Chris loved people deeply, and in return, he was deeply loved.

He worked as a proud union laborer and operator over 20 years, dedicating himself to his trade with integrity and strength. Chris took pride in his work and in providing for his family, carrying that same loyalty and dedication into every area of his life.

Whether spending time with family, socializing with friends, or simply sharing one of his unforgettable stories, Chris brought warmth, laughter, and comfort to those around him. His presence filled a room, and his absence will be felt beyond words. There was no one else like him.

A viewing for those that would like to pay their respects will be held on Sunday at Serenity Funeral Home in Largo from 3 - 7 pm. A second Celebration of Life will also be held in St. Louis, where additional loved ones, family, and friends will gather to honor and celebrate all the wonderful things about Chris.

Chris loved everyone, and everyone loved Chris. His legacy of kindness, loyalty, friendship, protection and love will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him.
