

PERRY, Doris I 88 of Seminole passed away on Tuesday April 28,2020. Doris was born September 2, 1931 in Dunn Township Ontario to the late Alfred Thorton and Margaret Louise (Wolfe) Bate. She moved to the United States from Canada upon getting married in 1953 first to Tonawanda N.Y. and then moved to Florida with her husband and 3 daughters in 1965, remaining there until her passing.
Upon coming to Seminole , Doris sold Avon which started a lifetime of friendships and then went on to work for the next 30 years for Pinellas County Schools in Food Service at Seminole Senior High.
Doris was a Loyal member of St. Bartholomew’s Episcopal Church in Tonawanda New York and St. Dunstan’s Episcopal and Anglican Churches of Largo, Florida. Over the years she worked in the Nursery, supported the Sunday School and Choir while her daughters were growing up and organized special events. She also was a member of the Church Vestry and Alter Guild having made Vestments, Robes and Alter Linens. If there was anything to do she was always first to volunteer, often taking charge. She most recently put together a 50 year history of St. Dunstan’s.
Doris has been a member of The Girl Scouts of America for 60 years in Girl Scouts of West Central Florida (formerly Suncoast Girl Scout Council) specifically in Whispering Pines, Shifting Sands and Shining Waters Neighborhoods. Not only was she a Troop leader, having followed several troops from Brownies through Senior’s, she was a Troop Camp Trainor and consultant, Neighborhood Director, yearly organizer and participant of Neighborhood Encampments, Showcase of Skills, Fly-Up Ceremonies, teaching Arts, crafts and sewing, how to do a proper Flag Ceremony and most famously for her Dutch Oven Cooking Class.
She had many friends in all parts of her life; her neighbors, Ridgewood Activities Center and pool (The DJ’s),“The Lunch Bunch”, Church and Scouts.
Doris was a devoted mother to her 3 daughter’s; Barbara McClure(Dainton), Susan Johnson-Henderson (Tyrone), and Diana Cason who lived with and took care of her for the past 8 years. She was grandmother to James Johnson and wife Amanda, Kenneth Johnson and wife Melissa, and Madison McClure Dalton and husband Tim, and Great-grandmother to Nathan Johnson and wife Rikki, and Jessica, Kevin and Christian Johnson. She also had many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews across Canada and The U.S. having a relationship with all. Also to be included are Pat Katz and Judy Clink whom she lovingly referred to as her 4th and “5th daughters.
She was pre-deceased by her husband James McKay Perry, parents Alfred and Margaret Bate, In Laws J. Arch and Ruth Perry and brother-in-law Alan, Brother David Bate, Sisters Lois Downey(Russ), Alice Kilpatrick(Earl) and Louise Worsnop(Glen).
Doris will be always remembered for her great passion for life, her unwavering Faith to the Lord, the smile on her face, immense love in her heart and always having positive things to say.
She will be missed tremendously by all.
