Elizabeth Duke Bickimer was born May 22, 1940 in the bustling hamlet of Lisbon Ohio. Her upbringing was typical of a small town, although she managed to stand out as an accomplished flautist, majorette, and school newspaper editor.
She spent a year at Dennison College, where she met the father of her children. After a brief courtship, they were married and started a family. Liz was able to finish college in 1974, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a degree in English. Her children believed her sole purpose for choosing said degree was to torture them with grammar correction and forced reading time!
Sometime in the 70’s Liz met the man who would be the love of her life, Charles Bickimer. Together they built the next chapter of their lives in Clearwater, FL. They married in December 1988 in Maui, HI, a place that would become their annual vacation destination for the next 25 years.
They both loved to travel, and after Chuck introduced Liz to the wonderful world of golf, they often combined their love of golf with their travels. They went on safari in Africa, rode on the Orient Express, and played on some of the most prestigious courses around the world.
In 1998 Liz proclaimed that she would no longer go by the name Liz. Henceforth she would be known as Elizabeth – So let it be written, so let it be done.
Elizabeth’s life changed irrevocably in April 2015 when she lost her beloved Chuck. While she soldiered on with her ladies golf group, going out with friends, managing Chuck’s business interests, and of course shopping, life would never be the same.
She focused her remaining years on taking care of all of her children and grandchildren, often sharing her generous spirit with her friends and acquaintances. On April 27, 2023 Elizabeth joined Chuck, so that they may continue their eternal love story.
Elizabeth is survived by her children Martin (Sharon) Goldman, Saundra Goldman, stepchildren Kathy Bickimer (Richard Nesto), Patty (Bill) Guthlein, eight grandchildren, and her sister-in-law and friend Nancy (Ray) Bichimer.
Elizabeth repeatedly told her daughter what she wanted written on her tombstone. Since there is no tombstone, here it is for all the world to see:
“I told you I didn’t feel well!”
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, June 17th at the Hilton Clearwater Beach at 11:00 am with a luncheon immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you donate to the Michael J. Fox foundation.
