Evangeline Hope (Olsen) Hanson, 78, of Largo Florida went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ at home surrounded by her family on May 4, 2018 after a strong battle with cancer. She lived every day to the fullest, yet never feared death because of her faith in Jesus. Vangie was loved by all who knew her. She had a special way of making everyone around her feel like they were the most important. She was a wise, kind, gentle person who had an adventurous spirit, a great sense of humor, and loved to laugh.
Vangie was the daughter of the Rev. Olaf and Martha Olsen. Her childhood was spent in Antler, ND and Yonkers, NY. Her education included Hillcrest Academy High School, Fergus Falls, MN; Nursing School at NYU Lutheran Medical Center, Brooklyn, NY; and Teachers College at Columbia University New York, NY, earning a Master’s in Education. She and her husband Dr. John Parker Hanson served as medical missionaries in Hong Kong with the EFCA. She also worked as a Registered Nurse and office manager in her husband’s medical practice in Largo, FL; taught Certified Nursing Assistants; and in recent years she was employed as a Tax Professional at H&R Block. Vangie also volunteered as a tutor for English Speakers of Foreign Languages. She was an active member of Northwood Community Church in Clearwater, FL, where she served in many areas from teaching Sunday School, as a Deaconess, and a member of the Missions Committee.
She is survived by her husband John; daughter Debbi Hanson; son Daniel Hanson and his wife, Anastasia Hanson; grandson John Michael Hanson; sister Anna Ruth Paddon and her husband Richard Paddon; dear stepmother Kari Olsen; and brother Keith Olsen, his wife Randi Olsen, and their son Peder.
A memorial service will be held at Northwood Community Church 2295 McMullen Booth Rd. Clearwater, FL 33759 at 11 a.m. on Saturday May 12, 2018.
