

George graduated from Hillsborough High School and received a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics from University of South Florida and a Master of Science in Mathematics from University of Florida and Masters in Industrial Engineering from University of South Florida.
He was married to Cindy Smith for 45 years. George had a successful career for over 40 years as a data analyst for multiple utility companies, including TECO, FPL, Lakeland Electric, and Duke. George was also passionate about teaching and taught on/off throughout his life at local and state Colleges and Universities including Hillsborough Community College, St. Pete College, University of Florida, University of South Florida, in addition to always being available for a tutor session with loved ones, friends and within his community.
He was a member of Tau Beta Pi Engineering Honor Society and the Industrial Engineering Honor Society. George found joy in the great outdoors, whether casting a line into Florida’s quiet backwaters, gliding through mangrove trails in a kayak, or tending to a thriving garden with care and patience. George embraced nature with both heart and hands.
George was a lifelong learner whose curiosity knew no bounds. Fascinated by the patterns and logic of the world, he found the greatest joy in exploring ideas – and in helping others to do the same. Nowhere was this more evident than in his love for mathematics. Whether solving complex equations or breaking down concepts for a struggling student, George brought clarity, patience, and enthusiasm to every lesson.
George was the kind of person who made friendships that lasted a lifetime. Whether reconnecting with childhood friends or welcoming new ones with open arms. George nurtured relationships with genuine warmth and care. But above all, George found his greatest joy in family. Every moment spent together – whether during everyday routines or special celebrations, was treasured.
He is survived in death by his wife, Cindy, daughter Emily and her husband Eric, daughter Alex – her husband Daniel and their children James and Norah, and his son Joel. He is also survived by his brother’s wife Marcella and their children Mike and Donna.
There will be a Visitation for George on July 26th, 2025, at 10:00am with a Celebration of Life to follow at Serenity Funeral Home; 13401 Indian Rocks Road Largo, Fl 33774.
The Celebration of Life reception, aka “After Party” will be held at the family’s home.
