Grover C. Powers

Grover C. Powers, 81 of LaPorte, passed away Sunday, November 18, 2012 in LaPorte. He was born March 29, 1931 in Salyersville, Kentucky to Leonard and Fannie (May) Powers. On January 25, 1960, he married Connie (Younggreen) Schweizer who survives. Also surviving are his children Patricia Ann (David) Nelson of LaPorte, Stanley (Carol) Powers of Delhi, New York, Lisa (Terry) Calkins of LaPorte, stepchildren, Jerry Schweizer of Largo, Florida, Robin Schweizer of Wanatah, 8 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, several great grandchildren, his sister, Dula Hirth of Covington, Kentucky, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters. Grover was a member of the Bethel Presbyterian Church in Union Mills, the Kingsbury Masonic Lodge #222, the O.E.S. LaPorte Chapter #280, and the American Legion in Rensselaer, Indiana. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran who served during the Korean conflict. Funeral services will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, November 21st at the Bethel Presbyterian Church in Union Mills. Pastor John Beehler will officiate. Burial will be in Union Mills Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-7 PM Tuesday at the Newhard Funeral Home in Westville. Masonic Lodge services will take place at 7:00 P.M.
