Jim was born September 27, 1941 in Bloomington to the late Pauline and Willie Mullis. He was a proud veteran of the Navy enlisting in 1958 at the age of 17. Returning to Bloomington in 1962 with the GED he obtained in the Navy, he secured a job with Public Service Indiana. Starting as a lineman, he worked his way up the ranks to management by the time he retired in 1994. During his 53 year tenure at PSI/Duke Energy he formed many friendships.
Jim had a large group of friends that he considered family, spending many hours after work at The Bass, the Walnut Street Lounge and The Refuge. Odds are if you ever frequented one of those bars, Big Jim has possibly bought you a beer. He was a member of the Bloomington American Legion and V.F.W. Jim was one of a kind, always with a smile on his face.
Jim married Suzy Miller and they spent 37 years together. They both shared a mutual love for the sun and spending time at the beach. After many years of being snowbirds, they moved to Largo, Florida full-time, where they enjoyed many years together before her death in 2015. Jim had his favorite Largo hangouts- Crabby Bills, the Angry Pepper and Mike's Pizza.
He is survived by his sons, Randy Moonshower (Shelly) of Indianapolis, Jimmy Mullis (Jennifer) of Bloomington, and Scott Moonshower (Ashley) of Scottsdale, AZ; his younger siblings, Linda Fariss and Larry Mullis both of Bloomington, five grandchildren, Kara Haywood (Anthony), Ryne Moonshower (Maddie), Ike Moonshower, Wyatt Moonshower and Hazel Moonshower. He was a beloved uncle to Brad Mullis; Shelly Banks (Jeremy); and Katie Fariss and a great uncle to Ashley & Alex Mullis and Gavin Banks.
Jim was preceded in death by his father Willie in 1978, his mother, Pauline in 2010, his favorite brother-in-law, Jim Fariss in 2024; his sweet sister-in-law, Harriet Mullis in 2010 and dear grandson, Trenton Mullis in 2019.
Per his wishes, Jim will be cremated and laid to rest with his beloved wife in Largo, FL.
The family would like to express their love and appreciation to Doug and Vicki Waltz. They have been lifelong friends with Jim and Suzy and shared so much of their lives together. Doug and Vicki helped guide Jim through these last years without Suzy, and we will be eternally grateful. Our family will never forget the love and caring nature you've shown, and you will be forever part of our family.
