Janis Irene Ferrell

Janis was born on January 6, 1951 to John Oscar and Pauline Payne in Ranger, TX. After graduating from Andrews High School in 1969, she attended Texas Tech for a year before moving to Ruidoso, NM.

Janis met her first husband, Barry Nelson in Ruidoso and went on to have two children, Briget and Boston Nelson.

Janis also started her 30 year career in telecommunications in Ruidoso, working for Contel. She continued to build a successful career working in management for GTE and Verizon in California, Texas and Florida. She valued hard work and loved her employees.

Janis went back to school, graduated from the University of La Verne with a degree in Business and then obtained masters degree in Business Management, MBA graduating from the University of Redlands in 1995.

Following her move to Tampa in 1999, she married her current husband John Ferrell in 2000.

After retiring early, she followed her creative passions and became an entrepreneur. She started her second career by obtaining a patent for her Dining Jewels. She used her artistic talents to start Just Because I Love where she upcycled furniture, painted with watercolors, and became an interior decorator.

Janis was true Texas lady that loved to paint, craft, sew, travel and entertain her grandkids. She was our precious Yellow Rose of Texas and touched the lives of so many.

Janis was predeceased by her father, John Oscar Payne, her mother, Pauline Payne, her brother, John Paul Payne and her sister, Jo Beth Peebles. She is survived by her husband, John Ferrell, children, Briget Nelson and Boston Nelson and her stepchildren, Shelley Cole, John Ferrell and Brian Ferrell. She’s also survived by 7 grandchildren, Austin Nelson, Shannon Ferrell, Saige Cole, Spencer Cole, Hayden Ferrell, Karsyn Ferrell and Addison Ferrell, and 1 niece, Kari Payne.

A graveside service followed by a reception will be held for family and friends at 11:00am on Friday, December 17, 2021 at Serenity Gardens Memorial Park in Largo, FL.
