Dear Colangelo Family: Growing up as Anthony’s best friend for many years, I had the pleasure of experiencing Jennie’s wonderful personality throughout the first couple of decades of my life. The Colangelo household was a place filled with warmth & care. Rocky made sure we stayed respectfully & Jennie made sure we felt loved; it was a beautiful balance. I learned many life lessons through getting to know the Colangelo’s: Jennie was one of the first who helped teach me how to love myself; which is one of the greatest lessons I have ever learned. When Anthony & I were in elementary school, he used to come to my family’s apartment after school. As we got to JHS & HS, the situation flipped. The Colangelo household became “the spot” where we would engage in a multitude of activities: whiffle ball, 2 hand touch football, basketball, video games, creating our own version of “Jerry Springer” (we even did our own commercials!) with a camcorder… the list goes on & on. Most of my childhood friends came from knowing Anthony & going to his house. Throughout the years, Jennie always made it feel like I had a second home to go to. She greeted me with love; even when I was acting inappropriately. I’ll always remember when we used to stay up late in Anthony’s basement either playing video games (usually Madden [remember “jet-packing”!]) or watching Chappelle’s “Killin’ ‘Em Softy” until all ends of the night (there were no clocks down there & it felt like time literally flew by.) Jennie never got mad about it; instead she would make us fresh chocolate chip cookies!!! What a treat!!! Jennie was a generous person with her love, care & compassion not only for her child, but any child she interacted with. I loved her like a second mom. I wish Jennie could’ve seen me as the adult I am now before she passed; I think I would’ve made her proud. Thank you Jennie for always making me feel like I can be myself. Rest In Peace Jennie


I’m missing you already.

  Learning that Jenny had passed broke my heart. She was a loyal & caring friend. I would frequently see her cheerful & smiling face approach as she would  stop by to say hello or more frequently, join each other for some coffee time. Jenny & I could share anything with each other like we were sisters, occasionally bickering like siblings as well. I admired her carefree & spontaneous spirit. She was fun, funny & fearless. Jenny managed to lighten up your day, whether through a phone call or a visit. She would always make sure that you were okay & well fed too! She will be missed by many but her memories will live on. I know she is at peace. I will miss you my friend! My thoughts & prayers go out to Anthony Sr. & Anthony Jr. & family.

I know Jennie from her wonderful son Anthony and the memories my son has shared with me. I am told how fiercely she loved her son and what a sweet and loving heart she had.

I remember one of the first times I met Jennie we went to Letchworth State Park together - Jennie, Rocky, Anne, Anthony,  and little Egbert. 

Jennie was always so happy and up for anything around those who loved her. Hanging around Anne and Anthony's house, she would crack me up - she always wanted to talk about clothes and we would dance around the kitchen while Anthony was cooking pizza or chicken parmesan. She made us smile and laugh - her joy was contagious.

I'll miss you, Jennie. Thank you for bringing us so much joy and love.

I met Anthony in junior high school - I could still remember the exact initial conversation.  Quite quickly - we became best friends and with that, as so many others have mentioned, I practically lived at the Colangelo household.  Mr and Mrs Colangelo weren't just my friend's parents - they were my family.  I viewed them as a second mom & dad - and they ALWAYS treated me like I was one of their kids.  Whether it was Sunday football followed by dinner, going to Giants games, going to Knicks games, the countless sleepovers at their house or our annual trips to Disney World - Jennie never made me feel anything but warm and welcomed.  My last memories of Jennie will always be early mornings in Disney World - Jennie would usually be the first to wake up and with that, she would typically be unnecessarily loud in the kitchen hoping that one of "her kids" (me, Gabe or her actual son - Anthony) would wake up to spend time with her.  If you have ever seen Anthony or Gabe sleep - you know that they weren't moving out of bed.  As such, I would typically be the first awake and Jennie would make me some extravagant breakfast.  As the years went on - these mornings became more deliberate.  Eventually, Jennie would  simply wake me up every morning by hitting me with a spatula & laughing in my face.

When I now think of my son and family - much of what I hope to somehow replicate is the warm welcome feeling they offered to anyone that came through their door.  This news broke my heart - sending prayers to Anthony Sr and Jr.  

Growing up down the block from Anthony, his family always welcomed me into their home with open arms. You could usually find all of our friends hanging out there, especially for Sunday dinner. I’ll never forget Jennie’s smile or that loud contagious laugh. She enjoyed having us around, being in the mix and would always be a buffer when Rocky got tired of our antics. She once went to, what felt like, every pharmacy in Florida to get swimmers ear for me so I would feel better. Jennie loved Anthony more than anything and was never shy about telling everyone about it. Thank you for always making me feel welcome and part of the family. Rest In Peace Jennie.

Jenny u will forever be in my heart I’m so blessed to have known such amazing person like u . You always made me laugh and your smile brighten a room. Rose and I loved making videos with you laughing and just having fun. I will never forget you or the memories through the years I have of me you rose and all of us . You were amazing mom to Anthony and great daughter aunt and wife . Forget in my heart and never forgotten ❤️

Jenny’s laugh was always infectious. She would grab onto something we were doing and her laugh would fill the room. We would start out laughing and end up in tears laughing. 

One of my favorite memories was going to Disney and being in a water park. I believe I was 14 at the time. I mentioned that I thought I ripped my swim trunks. She grabbed me by the hand and would not take no for an answer. She kept picking out different swim trunks at the theme park store. She wound up buying me like 4 pairs of swim trunks. That was Jenny. She stopped what she was doing and did that in a moment’s notice.

My beautiful, gorgeous Aunt who was there for me since the day I was born. She taught me everything there was to beauty and fashion. I always loved watching her as a lil girl do her hair and makeup and went the very 1st time in my life to the hair salon with her to get my hair highlighted.  She was not only an aunt, she was mothering to me as a child and sisterly when I became an adult. She was one of my favorite people  to he around when I needed to get away and just have fun or bake.  She knew how to bring a smile to anyone and was always soo welcoming to any stranger. I can’t believe she is gone. Every single holiday we planned together every year.. every birthday always she helped and her youngest great niece adored her n will miss her soo much. It brings great pain to loss such a beautiful person. She was soo proud of her son who grew up as a brother to me. Her daughter in law who was her daughter in her eyes and beautiful grandchildren, who I call my nephew and niece. She had the best heart and I don’t know how I’m gonna prepare holidays or plan things out without her.  I know she is in a better place with both my father ( her brother) and my mother. RIP my gorgeous Auntie your another beautiful Angel watching over our family. You won’t EVER be forgotten. 

Growing up together, I have very fond memories of my sweet cousin. Rest In Peace. May your memory be a blessing to all.

The Furlong Family would like to express our deepest condolences as we mourn the loss of Jennie Judith Colangelo. We will always remember her as a caring, compassionate and funny woman who loved her family and treated her friends like family. 

While her contagious laugh and humor will missed forever, we know that she will always be watching over her family and her friends. We also know she will never stop sending her smile and her love to all those she cared for. We will always remember to smile back, laugh like Jennie taught us and keep her memory in our hearts.

I grew up just down East 36th street from the Colangelo’s in Brooklyn and Anthony has been one of my best friends for decades.  When we were younger, we spent countless hours playing in the street, playing video games, and just hanging out, and it was always at “Ant’s” house.  When we got a little older, we would take trips to Lake George and Florida with the Colangelo’s.  After Rocky and Jennie moved to Florida, we continued to visit periodically.  For as long as I can remember, they opened their home to us, fed us, took us on trips, and never once asked for anything in return.  Some of my happiest memories involve the Colangelo’s.  Jenny was always excited to see us, curious to know what was going on in our lives, how our families were doing, etc.  She had a smile that could light up the room, and we always knew that she loved us like we were her own.  She had a special kind of pride in her son.  She was always so proud of all of Anthony’s accomplishments in life, whether big or small.  I’ll miss you very much Jennie, but I know that you’ll be watching over your family and friends with love.  Rest in Peace Jennie.

It would be very hard to choose just one memory of Jennie as there were so many to look back on and smile or just burst out laughing. 
What I can say is that from the first time I met Jennie on an August day in 2004 it was always very clear, she loved her family and she adored her son (trust me, the whole dorm knew who Anthony was). 
Jennie had the unique ability to make you always feel loved. I will never forget her hugs, her infectious laugh or sharing a bag of twizzlers with her.  She treated me as if I was her own son and I will  cherish that love forever.

I love you Jennie!



One of my favorite Jenny moments was back in high school we threw a house party at casa de Colangelo in Brooklyn. Mr.&Mrs.C were supposed to be out of town. The house was a total mess and it was super late. Instead of trying to sleep or clean up me and one other individual decided it would be a great time to play video games. It must have been 7am when Jenny walked in and saw us just sitting there with empty Solo cups all over the place. We were like deer in headlights, waiting for her to flip out. She walked towards us and smiled, I thought we were done for. She then asked us if we wanted breakfast. She proceeded to the kitchen and made us a huge breakfast. She never got mad at us, ever and looked at all of her son's friends as her own.  She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed

My mom lived with immense pride for her family and friends. She always went above and beyond to make sure everyone had a good time.  All she wanted was for her family have fun and be happy no matter the cost or circumstances.  She had the biggest heart and when she loved you, she let the world know it.  There wasn’t a shy bone in her body and she had certain charm to her personality that made even the most perfect stranger feel welcome. She will no doubt be missed greatly but her legacy of warmth, compassion, kindness … her beautiful blue-green eyes, and her never endless love for her family will transcend the ages. We love you Mom and know your spirit will be with us forever. God bless your soul. 

I know you’ll be laughing at this one in heaven, but truth be told my favorite memories of you Jennie, are the simple everyday kind we’d have just staying in at home together, whether at yours in Florida or ours in Rochester.  You got so excited about life’s little joys- the flavor ice cream we’d pick out from the store, or the type of cereal you’d buy for us to have for the week.  I’ll miss drinking coffee with you and the fact that you’d make another hot pot multiple times throughout the day no matter what time it was.  I’ll miss our “late night” cereal and ice cream binges after we already had a full meal of going back for seconds and thirds :). .  Most of all I’ll miss the way you welcomed me into your family from day 1, and seeing the loving way you played with your grandchildren.  Rest in peace Jennie <3

My mom loved being together, just me and her.  A few years back my mom came and visited me.  It was a beautiful sunny summer day in the finger lakes. We ate and drank our way around together.
We smelt the flowers in a vineyard together. We chewed on cherry tomatoes off the vine together. We planted rose bushes together.    She spoke of this trip as one of the best experience of her life, just seeing her son all grown up so proud of the person he’d become. Traveling the countryside together mom and son is something I’ll never forget and I know she won’t either. I love you Mom

Although I don’t have my own memories of Jennie, I feel I know and love her through the stories I have heard from my husband Joe. I know her home was a second home to Joe, and he loves their family as his own. ❤️ Kaitlin
