

On the evening of April 16, 2011, Our Lord called John A. Babice home, where he joined his wife, Betty, in the beauty, and eternal rest of Heaven. Born in Trenton, NJ, he was the son of Nicholas and Elizabeth (Wirth) Babice. Raised in Trenton, he graduated from Trenton Catholic high school. During his youth, John was involved in scouting; and was a scout leader prior to entering the Navy.
John was a member of the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving on a few different vessels. During his time on the USS Wasp aircraft carrier, he was a radio control man. After his tour of duty, he worked a couple different jobs before finding his true calling. John was a Trenton NJ city fireman until his retirement in 1978. During the later years with the fire dept., he was a chief's aid. While a fireman, John was an active member of the FMBA.
John, and Betty, lived in Trenton the first few years, then moved to Lakeside Park (Gropp's Lake)where they lived for 20 years. After retiring from the fire dept, they lived in Seminole, FL, until Betty passed away in 1999. Since that time, John has resided in Clearwater, FL. John worked at the Largo Police Dept. For approximately 20 years. Most of his time there was in the records dept., which he truly enjoyed.
John enjoyed fishing, and camping, and was an avid reader.
In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his loving wife of 50 years, Betty (Williams)Babice, his two younger brothers, Lewis, and Nicholas, his first great-grandchild, Daniel Gulick, his sister-in-law, Lorraine Callery, his brother-in-laws, Harry Callery, Edward Williams, Kenneth Howell, and Leonard Williams, and by other family members, and friends.
Mr. Babice is survived by three daughters, Lorraine (Lori)Evans, and her husband, Harold Gulick, of Hackettstown, NJ, Kathleen Babice of St. Petersburg, FL, and Lorraine (Sis)Paul, of Jackson, NJ. He is survived by two sons, Edward (Rick)Callery, and his wife, Alison, of Lumberton, NJ, and John Callery, of Quantico, Va. Surviving grandchildren are Monica (Evans)Carpenter, and her husband, Dave, of Morrisville, Pa, Elizabeth (Evans)Manisero, of Morrisville, Pa, Michael Gulick, and his wife, Vicki, of Mt. Lake, NJ, Scott Gulick, and his wife, Jaymie, of Succasunna, NJ, and Daniel Gulick, and his wife, Lori, of Pa. John's surviving great-grandchildren are Jadessa Shann, Solana Manisero, Peter Manisero, Jordan Gulick, Jacob Gulick, Shannon Gulick, Scott Gulick, Matthew Gulick, and Stuart Carpenter, and Matthew Carpenter, of Great Britian.
John was a good, hard working, kind, thoughtful, very generous man, a wonderful father, husband, and grandfather, and a great friend. He will be greatly missed by so many who love him.

A celebration of John's life will be held on Fri.,April 29th, in Moss Feaster Funeral Home's chapel, 13401 Indian Rocks Rd., Largo, FL 33774, 727-446-2375. Viewing will be held from 11am to 12pm. The service will begin at 12pm. Condolences may be offered at www.mossfeasterlargo.com.
