John Miller, 89, passed away on November 20, 2021. He was born on January 10, 1932 in Podmoky, Czechoslovakia. He escaped his Nazi-occupied country and came to the United States with his mother at eight years old, and lived in Chicago, Illinois. He graduated from St. Patrick Academy Catholic High School. After marrying, he moved to the southwest suburbs of Chicago and raised his eight children in Tri State Village near Hinsdale. His first career was with Trans World Airlines running its commissary. He then worked as a firefighter for Hinsdale Fire Department for 24 years, retired in 1987 and moved to Vero Beach, Florida where he and his wife worked for Dodgertown as food servers for many years. He enjoyed swimming in the ocean, traveling, and spending time with family. In April 2021 as John faced health problems, he moved to Largo, Florida and lived at Cypress Palms assisted living facility near his daughter’s home. There he enjoyed meeting new people, wildlife exhibits, live music concerts, and visits from his wife and children.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Miller, his son, Gerald Miller, and his grandson, David Miller.
He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Joan Sullivan Miller, half-brother, David Matejka, son John Miller (Luce Rubio) daughter Elaine Creasman (Stephen) son Robert Miller, daughter, Ellen Fraundorf (Richard), son, Michael Miller (Susan), daughter, Carol Jayne, and daughter-in-law, Megan Miller, grandson, Paul Welder (Jana), granddaughter, Tamara Creasman, granddaughter, Melinda Creasman, granddaughter, Sarah Craft, (Zach) granddaughter, Amanda Miller, granddaughter, Oliva Miller, grandson, John Michael Miller, grandson, Jordan Jayne, grandson, Jared Jayne, granddaughter, Madeline Miller, granddaughter, Samantha Miller, great granddaughter, Destiny Martinez, great grandson, Chace Craft, great grandson, Drake Craft, great grandson, Chance Welder, and great granddaughter, Addison Welder.
A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 11:00am at Serenity Funeral Home located at 13401 Indian Rocks Road, Largo, Florida 33774. A mass and celebration of life will take place in the Chicago area on June 25, 2022 which is near the date of John’s wedding anniversary.
