John C. Stoner, a beloved father, grandfather, and friend, was born on August 27, 1947, in Aurora, Illinois. He left this world on January 20, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. John was preceded in death by his cherished wife, Linda, who was his partner in life and adventure.
John is survived by his son, Brian Stoner (Wendy), daughter Stacy Meger (Ryan), and his grandchildren: Kayley, AJ, Lauren, and Lily. Through his marriage to Linda, he embraced an extended family that included Jeff (Leslie) Hoskins, Cheri (Bill) Akers, their grandchildren Crystal (Cody), Leah, Jackie, Jennifer (Tim), Bethanie (Tom), Jessica (Eddie), and Bryan, along with six treasured great-grandchildren.
John loved to tinker around the house and help anyone else with his incredible ability to fix almost anything. He was a carpenter and spent many years working at McKee Door in Aurora. After early retirements, John and Linda enjoyed their days in Bull Shoals, Arkansas, spending time with friends and family, fishing, and boating on the lake with their houseboat, ski boat, sailboat, and jet skis. Those long, laughter-filled days on the water are memories his children and grandchildren will carry forever.
In the winter they traveled to Indian Rocks Beach to camp, making lasting friendships along the way. Eventually, John and Linda sold their home in Arkansas and settled into their dream home in Seminole, Florida.
They were also big Jimmy Buffett fans (Parrotheads), and even sported matching Parrothead tattoos! John also loved cars, particularly Corvettes. After Linda’s passing, he enjoyed working on a 1991 black Corvette. He also joined a local car club and took great pride in winning several awards showing the Corvette and was very proud of how original it was.
John Stoner’s warm spirit and zest for life will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to Samaritan’s Purse, in memory of John Stoner, for their efforts in his neighborhood after Hurricane Helene.
