Marilyn was one of eight girls and enjoyed growing up on her parents 80 acre farm in Allendale, Michigan. She graduated St. Petersburg School of nursing in 1983 with her associate’s degree in nursing. Marilyn worked 21 1/2 years at Edward White Hospital where she excelled in ICU, did supervision and worked as infection control coordinator. After leaving Edward White Hospital she worked at Suncoast Hospice for 12 years retiring as Senior Staff Nurse. She was loved and respected by all those who worked with her. She once said ICU nursing was the job she enjoyed most where she felt most respected for her abilities.
She also loved to read, garden and had a deep love of animals. Her best buddy was Scooter a black and tan dachshund who she cared for 16 years. He was fearless and Marilyn knew all the names of the neighbors dogs in the neighborhood.
She was a strong Christian woman who loved Jesus. She volunteered her time to International Crusade Evangelism for many years as secretary on the board and did Faith Community Nursing until the pandemic hit. She was a light to those around her and wants her life to be remembered as one full of gratitude and great blessings.
Marilyn is survived by her loving husband of 44 years Peter G. DeLaire and daughter Danielle Joy whom she loved to the moon and back. Also survived by her sisters Mary Irwin, her twin sister whom she had a special bond Muriel Eno (husband Thom), Marlys Kroll, Marcene Bronson, Michele Stone (husband Tom) and Melinda Kloostra (husband Kurt), brother-in-law Paul DeLaire (wife Barbara), sister-in-law Anne Marie DeLaire and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents Maurice and Aljean DeJonge. Sister Marcia McNeil and brother-in-law Mark DeLaire.
The family would like to thank all friends, relatives and neighbors who poured out their love and continue to do so. Words cannot express our gratitude.
